Dresden's annual Striezelcup 2010 dragon boat race, held in the beginning of December, was a cold and snowy event this year. Temperatures were about -10 degrees Celsius with about 25cm of champagne powder snow o the river banks. While the river didn't freeze over (yet), there were chunks of ice drifting about. When I did this race in 2005 it almost snowed, but nothing like this year's event. It's a 500m UPSTREAM time trial with phased starts similar to our false creek guts and glory. No medals, only a team trophy and some Christmas mugs and goodies. And of course, there's a beer tent. There's always a beer tent, even after practices. With decent beer.

Sure, anyone can race dagon boats in summer...

If this club can haul their boats in and out of the water in that, why was my outrigger practice cancelled today because it might have gotten below freezing???

Looks like a lot of *cold* fun.  I'm sure there wer a few beers to be had afterwards to help warm your insides.  Cheers

Isn't it normal to have ALL your vacation time revolve around dragonboating?
