Serratus Flak Jacket

Features:

A thoroughly thought-out PFD with provisions for accessories. Constructed using rugged 420dn "Skid" Ripstop, High Tenacity nylon.

Mesh bottom hem for quick drainage and drying.

Adjustable, low-profile neoprene shoulder straps for comfort and fit.

Mesh pocket has key clip and Fox 40® whistle in pocket flap. Daisy chains front and back.

Can be fitted with our River Fountain hydration system (includes a one litre Platypus® water bag) or Fountain Accessory pocket.

Review:
The Flak Jacket comes across as being better constructed than any of the life jackets I have worn during my ten years of paddling. The Flak is a little bit on the bulky side but it’s made for BIG WATER so that is to be expected.  It fits perfectly and I haven't had any chaffing issues unlike the regular life jackets that the practice facilities stock. I find that it allows for better shoulder movement as well.

The Flak Jacket has some pretty cool features. It has a 420 Denier Shell, Mesh bottom for quick drain and dry, Neoprene shoulder straps ,a mesh pocket with key lanyard and here is a cool new thing……a Velcro sealed pouch in the pockets flap.   That means there is a pocket inside a pocket and it comes with a whistle, and that is a great safety feature.

The Flak is a side entry jacket with zipper with four mid waist straps and one on the bottom with a speed clip. The side entry doesn't take too much time to get used to and honestly, I barely notice it on when I paddle.

I have no complaints.  However, I only recommend this to the people serious about paddling and looking to continue for many years, since it is a comparatively large investment.

the pockets are handy, you can remove the whistle and tie on an extra house/car key to it.

you can carry your paddle wax, and racer's pass (for race day of course) in the mesh pockets.. handy dandy..

The only annoying thing is if you use wax, you won't want to smear it all over your jacket, but a small ziplock bag would sort that out pretty quick.
