Hi. I am a highschool student from Richmond BC, and have been in the school dragon boat team for 3 years, this being the 4th year.

The problem I'm having is, the coach prioritizes members that are from the school, but do not attend ever practice over people from other schools who would like to attend every practice.

I'm just sick and tiered of committing my time to a team that's not committed.

Unfortunately, the race regulations as long as i know state that to be in a adult team, you have to be 19, i am sure that can be dealt with for the alcan festival, but not for others, i guess the manager would know about the other races,

1st year on the team, i was just a paddler, back row. we ended up with 3rd in B finals.
2nd year, I was steering. we only had 18 paddlers on the boat on race day.
3rd year, I was steering during practice, team was cancelled a week before races.
and this year, i have been steering for now.

Last year, i steered may be 5 races or so as a substitute steer person during ADBF.
I also have my pleasure boat license, and have operated the coach boats during the festival.

i would love to find a team with committed members, so i can be sure I'm in a team thats not gonna dissapear.
I'm putting time in, i want to race.

if you have a team, please call me at 604-762-0117 any time, i may not pick up, but i will certainly call back.

thanks in advance!

Hi Petko

We are starting up a Junior team for Killarney...  and could use an experienced steers person to keep their enthusiasm going in a straight line.
I am coaching.

PM me or e-mail me at [email protected]

And.... if you like us, and we like you....

A steersperson role is available with Gung Haggis Fat Choy dragon boat team
Last year we attended 9 dragon boat regattas and races including Victoria, Vernon, Kent/Seattle WA, Cultus Lake and Lotus Barnet + UBC Day of the Longboats + Ft. Langley Canoe regatta.

I steered last year... but I REALLY want to paddle this year.
I have steered in Novice, Rec and Comp divisions.... BuK, Millenium, teak, Gemini, 6-16, Dynasty, Taiwanese cedar... in San Francisco, Seattle, Kent, Kelowna, Vernon, Cultus Lake, Barnett Marine Park, Port Moody.... + operated power boats in Georgia Straight and West coast of Vancouver Island.

Hopefully we will have lots to talk about!

Hi Petko,

We're actually a new team looking for an experienced steersperson just like yourself.  It's comprised of half new paddlers, and half experienced paddlers.  We're a young (probably around 20-25 years old on avg), enthusiastic, and fun team, that would really appreciate someone like you (since we don't have an accredited steersperson right now).  I've been filling in as a steersperson temporarily, but I'm quite the newbie at it.  Practices are ok, but I'm not sure what we'll do for races.  We like the whole "team" part of the sport, and we enjoy our "team" lunches, "team" bbqs, and other bonding activites like that.  Please do consider joining the Riptide Family.  778-838-8228 (James) if you have any further questions at all.

Cheers
