Hi, this is for the paddlers in Victoria.

We have a run group for those wanting to train for the Times Colonist 10km and get geared up for dragon boat season,  it's free, runs 3X a week for 13 weeks and follows Sportmed BC's In Training program.

The learn to run program is designed for the non-runner and will start of with very short periods of running interspersed with walking breaks building up to cover the 10km distance.  The run faster program is designed for those that can comfortably run 30min and are looking to work on getting faster.  If there are enough interested people, we could also run the walking program available.

This group provides an encouraging, non-competitive and supportive environment to help you meet your goals and become a fitter and stronger paddler.  It is made up mostly of dragonboat paddlers along with various friends and family.  All are welcome!

Most people try to start running on their own doing to much too soon, resulting in injury and an end to running, this program is designed to prevent that. Motivation is also hard to keep up so that's where the group comes in!

We'll be starting Sat Jan 27 at the Gorge Rowing and Paddling Centre at 9am.  The program has 3 runs a week for 13 weeks, you can join the group or run on your own for any sessions that you can't make.  We'll start off with Tues and Thurs at 6pm and Sat at 9am until the start of March, then it will be Mon and Wed at 6pm and Sat at 9am although I can set up smaller sub-groups if the days don't work well for everyone.  The training is in anticipation for the Times Colonist 10km on April 29, 2007.

If you are interested or would like more information, please let me know.

I can be reached at [email protected].

Also, if you're looking for some paddlers for Victoria teams, I may be able to help, I know of a few people that may be looking around for teams and our roster is pretty full at the moment.

Thanks,
Katy

I've had some people ask if there will be walk 10km group too.  If we have enough people interested in this then yes we can do that too, just let me know and I'll get a list going!

The response has been amazing, we're now up over 60 people with about 15 teams represented. So, if you were shy in thinking that you were going to stick out, you should be ok!  Smile

If you want more info on the walk/learn to run/run faster groups, shoot me an e-mail at [email protected] and I'll add you to the list!

Hi all,

We're now at just under 100 paddlers and friends for the walk 10K, learn to run 10K and run 10K faster programs.  All in all there are about 16 different GRPC teams represented!  It all gets started 9am Sat Jan 27 at GRPC, come down and check it out or shoot me at e-mail at [email protected] to be added to the e-mail list.

This is a non-competitive, supportive group geared towards training for the Times Colonist 10K on Apr 29th and getting prepared for dragon boat season at the same time.  Oh yes, and there is no cost to you (other than making sure you have a good pair of running shoes!).

What do you have to lose? Smile
