Possible changes to the race format of the Alcan Dragon Boat Festival

Hi all,
The race organizers of the Alcan Dragon Boat Festival would like some feedback on potential changes to the race format for 2007. Registration is soon upon us (although most likely closer to the end of November and not mid November, as stated on the website), so a quick response would be appreciated.
The potential changes are:
A separate women's division, where women's teams would get 4 races each. Similar to the Kelowna DBF. This would mean a separate registration fee and women's teams would not need to enter the mixed division.
Junior division races all on one day (still 3 or 4 races per team). Since junior teams are usually writing exams at this time, we are wondering if this would be something the junior teams would like.
A separate division for NEW teams that only practice 4-6 times. All races on one day, shorter race course, 3-4 practices included in their registration fee.
A second regatta in mid to late April - sprints, 200m, one day, 3 races/team.
Any and all feedback welcome. Please remember that these are just ideas we've been considering and we will not make any changes lightly.
Thank you for your time.

I would love to see a women's division at Alcan! That's the only thing stopping our team from entering..

Seems a lot like what the San Francisco race does in terms of having novice teams race one day, high school teams the other day, with recreational / competitive teams racing both days.
With respect to the junior and women divisions, would teams or paddlers also be allowed to compete in the regular recreational / competitive division? Visiting junior teams (and the Laoyam Eagles) may want to race both days instead of just one. And a visiting team with two or more mixed crews may want to have its women enter a women's crew.

hmmm I'm foreseeing the jr, or senior races shoved into a 4-6 hours schedules on Sunday or Saturday mornings from 8 - 12, where you only get about 30mins worth of rest to recap in between 4 races.
doubt it's possible to secure more than 1 weekend for the festival, as the all the costs would be astronomical.
It would be nice to have an Alcan Junior. Dragonboat Festival though. Seeing that the provincial exams for grade 10-12 are 20th-28th, it'd be ideal to have the date on friday the 29th, and the weekend for the adult divisions.

only problem with that, is that people would STILL be complaining, cause then they'd complain that no one went to see their races cause everyone was busy at work and the festival isn't really set up completely (or running) during the day on friday.
