Of all the races that I have participated in, Long Beach offered the best possible conditions...kudos to Long Beach for hosting a wonderfully fair qualifying race. My team raced in every lane at least once over the course of the weekend, and we did not notice any discrepancy in water conditions from one lane to the next. Even when the ocean breezes kicked up it produced virtually no chop on the water. And advancement was based on placements, so tail winds that picked up every now and then to assist a heat or two, but quickly died, had no bearing on advancement. Assigned tented team areas were two to three times larger than that offered at other festivals, such as Rose Festival, Alcan and Victoria. All in all, great festival, great competition, and a great weekend! Congratualtions Long Beach!

The competition looks a lot tougher this year than last year!

the competition was VERY tough this year.  it's always to race against these teams... hope to see more competitive teams out next year.  this year, there was another capsize - this time it wasn't LARD (but LARD coached), it was a local high school team (my sister is on the team).  i believe we are the only brother-sister combination in the world that have "hulied" on 2 separate dragon boats in competition.
