SAVE ON FOODS DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL
July 8 to 10
Regular deadline: June 24th
www.nanaimodragonboat.com

Quote
Our goal is to raise awareness and money for breast cancer equipment here in Nanaimo. This is the common thread, breast cancer, this disease has touched all of us. My wife Lorri is a 21-year breast cancer survivor and paddles with the Abreast of Life team

However this is not the only reason... This event fits Nanaimo! It gives us the opportunity to invite dragon Boat competitors and spectators from across Canada and the USA to enjoy one of the most beautiful Harbour in Canada, the Nanaimo Harbour. It allows us the opportunity to introduce the great sport of dragon boat racing to the people of Nanaimo and challenge the citizens and corporate companies to get involved.

The Save On Foods Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival foster community pride, local culture and in the end help achieve our charity goals. I would like to thank the sponsors, without their support, an event of the size just would not take place.

2005 brings a new and exciting level to this premier Dragon Boat Festival. 80 teams will experience and see more team activities and events in our third annual festival. I would like to thank my boards of director.s, chairs, the many subcommittees and volunteers. Their hard work and dedication over the past year will make this the best Dragon Boat Festival yet.

Of course, a big thank you goes out to the Nanaimo Port Authority for their commitment to making Nanaimo a better place to live and supporting the Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival Society in a number of ways. I would like to thank The City of Nanaimo and the RCMP for their support and advice from the very beginning of operations.

I have had the pleasure of meeting many of you dragon boaters over the past two years and would like to invite you to join us July 8-10, 2005.

Alex Marriott
President
Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival Society

Paddlers Village

We supply all the tents Ask any team who attended over the past two years and they will tell you, it is first class, secure and a lot on fun to be in. Each team will receive their own tent with three sides for privacy on a secured site, only paddlers with arm bands are permitted in the athlete.s village. We provide a drop-off location close to the paddler.s village so teams can drop off paddlers and equipment.

Paddlers Party
What can I say BIGGER and Better and it only cost $10.00 per person. This event is only open to paddlers and their invited guest. You must pick up your tickets at registration. It takes place Saturday night from 7:00pm to 11:00pm.

Just wondering how many teams are headed to Nanaimo? I know of a few from Victoria but am curious who was coming from the mainland.

Well, Nanaimo is not until next weekend, so I am guessing that the ferries will be cleared up by then.

I live in Nanaimo and I know that there is a bit of ferry flow going now so hopefully by then, ferry traffic will be moving smoothly.

I will be racing with Blu By U.................

So far, I believe there are 65 teams registered.

Wow! that is a far cry from the small turnout the first year!
I think there were some 50 odd teams last year when I went.
It was my favorite festival of the year! Great people , good attitude and run the way a DB festival should be run...!
By far the best beer garden of the year! (and they didn't run out or server low carb beer PLUs it was a snap to get beer tickets!)
Too bad so sad I have no team to paddle on this year but I am sure everyone will have a good time!

Hey lethal...

where do you live????

I am sure that if you could make it, there would be some boats that need spares to paddle!

I spared for 3 other teams, aside from my own, last weekend for the Nanaimo PaddleFest.

What an awesome weekend!

My team placed 1st in the Diamond A division!

Was definately fun watching the Platinum A division though.  And it was funny because the announcer had originally said that Gorging was in 3rd place!  But they had gotten 1st!

Diamond A division:
Blu By U - 2:28:69
Mentor Mariners - 2:31:16
Kickin' Bass - 2:32:51
St'Keya - 2:33:85

I've got lots of pictures but have yet to upload them from the digital!

The Diamond A was a great race....pity my team placed 4th -- however, the competition was just a tad too much for a bunch of old guys!  Nicely done Blu by U!

It was a truly great weekend - great site, great organization, great festival.

Platinum A final was a awesome race.

Great pictures Lethal!  Thanks for sharing them!!

It was the first time I'd ever been to Nanaimo and I must agree... GREAT FESTIVAL!!  No complaints at all!!  (okay, maybe just one but I'll keep that to myself)  Got a tad wet on Saturday... thanks to whoever packed all our stuff into the tent while we were racing through the rain storm.  It was a hair raising  Shocked (literally) experience being out there... we were static charged with energy!!!

I am from StrangeBrew and had the honour of paddling with the Gorging Dragons this past weekend.  Thank you GD for the great experience, laughs and good time!!  Watch out, cuz the Brew Crew is coming thru!! ha ha ha!!  Dance

MORE BEER!!  Cheers  Cheers

Thanks to all the volunteers!!  You guys made it an unforgettable weekend!!!   Clapping
