OK.. was browsing the Eastern board again and came across this...
Okay which team is prone to be in an accident?
So which teams have been on the short end of a collision and how often?
I have one team to nominate, Eye of the Dragon in Vancouver. They are a visually impaired team and over the last 5 years or so they have been t-boned on at least 3 occassions. They have had people hit so hard they were nearly catapulted out of the boat. The intersting part is this is the visually impaired team and they are the ones getting hit, so who are really the visually impaired not Eye of the Dragon
So in the same vein, I'd like to throw this out to everyone. Let's have some collision stories....
Mine would be the infamous TeamLARD incident at the 2003 Portland Dragon Boat Races. For some background information, TeamLARD didn't have a full roster for this event so they gathered paddlers from various other team in attendence. I happened to be one of the fortunate ones to be able to find a spot on their boat while I was down there with my own team. Â Anyways, during one of the heats, the steersperson TeamLARD found to steer their boat starts to lose control about at the 250m mark, veering to the right. The steersperson tries to steer the boat back onto the race course but overcompensated and falls down, causing the boat to take a drastic swerve to the left placing the TeamLARD boat a metre away from the finish line...perpindicularly. Gung Haggis, with perfect focus on the boat doesn't see the prone LARD boat till last minute causing them to hit at roughly seat 2. Where did we get the steersperson, you may ask? Apparently she was from one of the breast cancer teams...
The event has even been immortalized as one of DBW's portal pictures
