Generally, the carnival was a testing ground for the Club Crew Championship. They moved paddlers village closer to the race site, but the racers village was spread amongst the businesses around TST. The races were backlogged due to some protest during the races. Marshalling was also moved to where the showers used to be. The barge is back but with a gang-plank (People don't need to jump onto the barge)
Racers were behind schedule by 1 - 1.5 hours.
Teams were mandated to wear all the same uniforms (Drummer, Steersperson and Paddlers). If not, penalties were incurred.
Race course was not straight, it dog legged left, for the last 150 Meters.
DCH from NY broke their steering TOOTHPICK (oar), when he tried to turn the boat at the dog leg turn. He fell in. Their team lost control just at the end of the race and ended nearly getting smacked by Team San Diego. Steers from DCH was a little stunned but is safe...
FCRCC Jr. lost control (400M mark) in their final race, but found a way to get the boat back in line and finished within their lane. However, we think their penalized some time infraction.
Overall, the Canadians and Americans are showing well in HK. The remaining Club Crew teams are arriving now but most of them did not paddle in the carnival. For those who were fortunate to take advantage of the Carnival, have gained valuable practice time and also time to observe the competition.
Time to rest up for Club Crew......
