Hi everyone (well mostly just the Victoria folk on this one!)

I'm looking for some keen women to help start a brand new women's dragon boat team in Victoria for the 2011 season.

It’s long overdue, we need a women’s team for the 20-49* year old age range in Victoria (*older paddlers not excluded!)

My name is Katy Milne, Fifth Mooner for 10 years, coaching for 9.
I’ve coached many paddlers and taken many coaching courses over the years, you’re in good hands.  I have lots of experience building strong, stable, drama-free crews with a solid work ethic, I’d like to get a women’s crew going with the same principles.

How new is this team? Well it doesn’t exist yet, not even a name! Practice times will be:
5:30-7pm Tues/Thurs likely running April – August  2011
We may aim for Nanaimo, Women’s Island Classic, Gorge and Victoria but details will develop as we get more bodies on board.

No experience is necessary but you do need to be committed, hard-working, reasonably fit, enthusiastic and have a great personality.  I’m also looking for people willing to take leadership roles within this new crew to help me get it off the ground.

This is an exciting opportunity to get involved in building a new team with like-minded women that just want to paddle hard with other reliable people while enjoying the team experience.
Nanaimo has lots of women’s crews, the Lower Mainland has lots too, Victoria needs more!
Note – this is a dedicated womens crew, you won’t be able to paddle on a mixed crew and this crew if you’re already on a team!  Sorry!

If you’re interested shoot me an e-mail and we’ll chat!

Hi everyone,

We've had quite a few responses so far for our new womens crew out of GRPC starting probably May 2011.  We'll likely be getting together before the end of the year to come up with a name and general plan before starting the full recruiting drive.

If you're interested in being included in the planning, please shoot me an e-mail at [email protected] and I can keep you in the loop!

Looking for committed, fit, team-oriented, drama-free people willing to work hard without losing sight of the fun of paddling.  Again, this will be a dedicated crew so we can't take paddlers who will also be paddling on mixed crews for 2011.  You must be able to commit to 2 practices a week and all the team festivals.

Practice times will be Tues/Thurs 5:30-7pm.

Let me know if you're interested or have questions!  Smile

Recruiting is going well for our new Victoria womens crew, looks like there will be a meeting on Thurs Jan 20th.

We're still looking for a few more strong, fit women, with or without experience that are hardworking, committed, reliable, have a strong team approach and are not fans of drama!  Smile

Let me know if you'd like to come to the meeting.

Hi everyone,

Recruitment has gone well and we're sitting at around 27 potential paddlers this season for our new womens crew out of GRPC, now named Snappin' Dragons.

We're going to have a preseason practice on Sunday Apr 10 at 2:30pm at the Gorge Rowing and Paddling Centre to give potential new paddlers a chance to come check it out.

Although we're getting pretty full, I'm a big fan of having more people on board at the start of the season as I hate scrambling later due to injuries, weddings etc.  I also want to make sure that we have the best possible people on board to make this a successful team, so far I'm very happy with the mix we have and am looking forward to seeing how things develop!

If you're interested in coming to check things out or would like more info on the team, shoot me an e-mail at [email protected] and I can fill you in.  Must be a team-oriented, strong, fit, fun to be around person who is hardworking, reliable and committed and up for any challenge!  And no drama!  Not interested in anyone bringing the drama!  Smile

Hi guys,

Just a quick reminder for anyone in Victoria looking to join a brand new womens team that we're having a pre-season practice from 2:30-4pm this Sunday Apr 10 for anyone interested in checking it out.

Send me an e-mail if you'd like to hop in for the practice to check things out.
