The fourth-annual, world famous NAVY CHICKEN RUN will be Saturday 20 August 2011 at the Gorge Rowing & Paddling Centre in Victoria, BC.

Those already in the know can skip ahead and tell me that you're in at [email protected].

Registration is only $200 +HST and for that paltry sum you get the following:
  • Hours of fun competing against hundreds of other dragon boaters.
  • Head-to-head racing (but not much).
  • A manoeuvring course to test your steers' mettle.
  • Countless challenges that you would never see at a typical festival.
  • On-shore events that will do more than entertain you.
  • The opportunity to use more than just your muscle to crush the competition.
  • Access to a beer garden with cheap drinks and The Best Damn DJ in Victoria.
  • Sharks with frickin' lasers attached to their heads.  Sorry, we had to scratch that after the incident last year.
  • A chance for your entire team to win awesome medals.
  • One of the best ways to end your dragon boating season ever imagined.

Typical rules are out.  There is no male/female ratio and you can fill your boat with up to 26 people (including steersperson and drummer) whenever on the water.

It was recently suggested that letting your team's sponsors paddle with you would be a great way to thank them.  Navy Chicken Run has also been used by teams to introduce new people to paddling by using an event that provides plenty of fun and very little stress.  If you’re still looking for reasons to do this, you clearly haven’t yet talked to someone who has been in the Navy Chicken Run.

Got questions?  Ready to sign up?  Talk to us at [email protected].

See you August 20!

If you absolutely can't get your team to put a crew together for this one (lame!) and are dying to do it, let me know, I may be able to find you a spot with one of our crews.   I'm aiming to put in 2 teams (Fifth Moon and Snappin' Dragons) so we may have some space although things are filling up fast so I won't be able to guarantee anything.

Even if you can get some of your regular team together though it's well worth it - fill the rest of the boat with friends and family.  We did that last year and came in first (I think we were about 2/3 paddlers, the rest guests).  There are many random skills needed!

Although it's at the end of the season, it's a good chance to bring non-paddlers out for a fun event that perhaps may inspire them to try dragon boat next year so it's an awesome recruiting tool too!  And a fun way to start winding down the season with your crew.

And I have to agree, the medals are awesome and change every year!  Well worth it!

Here are my posters for the Navy Chicken Run 2011.  If you drag the picture up to your address bar, I believe you will see the full size version.  You will probably need it for the second poster.

If you want to register or just get more information, contact me at navychickenrun AT hotmail.com.

Navy Chicken Run is this Sat at GRPC, if your crew isn't doing it and you don't want to miss out there are likely still some teams looking for a couple walk-ons!  You could talk to Rob or perhaps contact GRPC.

I probably could squish a couple more on Fifth Moon or Snappin' Dragons!

This event is a whole lot of fun and completely different from any other dragon boat festival you've been involved in.  The teams that are the fastest on the water are not necessarily the winners here, there are many different skills involved!

Don't miss out!  You're guaranteed to have fun at the event and the sun will be nice in the beer garden after!

See you there!
