We had a good year with fundraising and would like to give a little bit back.
Our team would like to offer $200 coaching 'scholarships' to two qualified members of a BC-based youth dragon boat team to attend one of the upcoming Water's Edge full-day coaching clinics. Details below.
Like Ritchie Bros. does, our dragon boat team decided to invest in a sustainable community leadership opportunity in amateur youth sport. As we all know, one good coach can influence hundreds of paddlers over their career.
[Hopefully other teams with extra funds can make similar offers or add clinic seats on to this one ...!?]
About the Scholarship:- Applicants that otherwise would not have access to these clinics are preferred e.g. where there is a financial or social need.
- Winners can select from either 'Dragon Boat Coaching Level 1' for beginners or 'Coaches Critical Eye' for novices who have some experience.
- Water's Edge clinics are usually held in November in Vancouver's False Creek area.
- Full descriptions are at
www.canpaddle.com under 'Services' and 'Custom Clinics'.
To apply:- Youth team coaches/captains can submit the names of youth team members that are
committed to pursuing dragon boat coaching.
- Applications should include a brief description of the paddler’s current abilities, the paddler’s desire and aptitude for coaching, what they bring to the sport, and how a scholarship would help e.g. financial or social need.
- Youth team members can also make submissions but please discuss with your current coach/captain first and ask them to submit the application on your behalf.
- If there are multiple submissions, our team will review the submissions and select the two candidates that best fit the criteria.
- Applicants have to meet any other requirements set out by Water's Edge - if there are any issues, we'll work something out.
- Send your submissions to Laurie Kinsman at
[email protected] by
Friday, September 17.
Good Luck!
