If you have dragonboated in British Columbia in the last ten years you will know Wendy Eng. She has been in charge of a volunteers at Alcan, Kelowna and all over the Dragonboat scene. She was a tireless worker, and the dragonboat world was much better for her energy and dedication to our sport.
Two weeks ago, while practicing with her dragonboat team, Wendy collapsed in the boat on False Creek. Because her team had a procedure established, 911 was alerted immediately and she was rushed to St. Pauls hospital where she underwent emergency open heart surgery for an aortic dissection. She is recovering well at home, and the doctors tell us that because she was in such good shape from paddling both outrigger and dragonboat, she survived the trauma. I know all dragonboaters wish Wendy well and a speedy recovery. We need Wendy at the top of the ramp at Alcan, encouraging all the teams and her volunteers.
Get well Wendy,
