Just thought I'd pass this along for any teams on the Island that are participating in the Victoria Dragon Boat Festival that the on-line fundraising site that raises funds for the BC Cancer Foundation is now active.
To sign up your crew to fundraise go to
www.victoriadragonboat.com and go under the charity link on the right of the page. We've had some fun with it the last few years making it a competition within our crew and also against other crews that participate.
In the past only a few teams have participated but have raised quite a fair amount of money for cancer research. Partly as not everyone knows about it. Hopefully we can get even more teams participating this year, it's dead easy, you just set up your site and e-mail friends/family, they can ignore you if they want, much easier than face to face fundraising!
All money raised through this drive stays on Vancouver Island to fund research but of course, the benefits of that extend elsewhere too!
As a cancer researcher myself I sort of feel obligated to make sure as many people as possible know that this fundraising drive is out there for teams to help us continue with the research we're doing. Not too many teams seem to know about it.
