Canadian curse at San Fran

No mention of the Canadian Curse at the San Francisco Dragon Boat Festival though.
What curse? I was on the crew that broke that curse back in '06. The Canadian crews that year won bronze, silver and gold. Not only in the mixed but we cleaned up in the mens and out of town divisions as well. It was one of my most memorable races as the San Fran crew thought we weren't even in contention due to previous race times. Then in the final we laid down the hammer! Maybe it had to due with the fact Puppy put a loonie under the drums of the Canadian boats, hmmmm...
The Vancouver team returned for a repeat win in '07.

You haven't heard that they started a new Canadian curse at San Fran? For the past three years since the old Canadian Curse was broken, Canadian teams have taken first place in the Mixed. Hans even requested that the Canadian anthem not be sung at the Medals ceremonies last year
Now that this has been brought up.. it'll probably be broken this year.

Its not really a case of unsportsmanlike behavior is it? I can imagine it being construed as such, but showing national pride?

Am I correct in saying that the "Canadian Curse" was broken by Canadian composite crews? Or were the team truly club crews?

I was on the team w/ Special K that was the first to dominate the event and break the curse .We basically were just a bunch of paddlers who were from a few different teams that wanted to go and have fun .I wouldn't say all were elite paddlers but all were from fairly decent teams .
To be honest there are a number of club teams up here that could easily win that event but they choose not to go as it can be costly . Dragon Warriors got a taste of one of our top club teams , FCRCC , at the club crews in 2006 . The curse is really not all that hard to break and wouldn't take much for 1 of the better teams locally to win it again .I'm not knocking the Dragon Warriors ( not a bad team ) but putting things into perspective . I believe DW even brought down 1 of the coaches and member of the FCRCC team to help them step it up a little a year ago

Our crews were 'throw together'. You did have to TT to make the 'A' crew and we did have a couple of practices together but not much.
The second year as well was the core of one crew and then many fill ins. Not sure who won the third year.

2006 -
Strathcona's Dangerous When Wet - 1
was honestly a team of ringers put together to break the curse. Basically
Ivan Drago
... built with only winning the festival in mind.
2007 -
West Coast Jambalaya
was a combined team of Masters of D'Zone and Without Warning paddlers. Basically whoever could afford the trip down from both teams. Wasn't really expected to win.
2008 -
Air Canada JetStart
was a complete club team to the best of my knowledge.

Just wanted to point out that West Coast Jambalaya won despite having myself, another Fish, and Lethal on board. Imagine their time if they didn't have to pull our dead weight!

Jetstart won Mixed last year, and their Steer lent his talent to numerous teams throughout the weekend, a total class act. They were in attendance in 2007 but I don't think made as much of an impact. There were also various combinations for Masters wins. The anthem got sung at medals acapella anyway!

Who from the Great White North is heading south this year? My team is - maybe we could join forces and put together a mens and womens squad?
