lol nice

last year at victoria there was a team called... Scurvy Dogs i think?  they literally put fear into other teams.  They would wait until the team next to them got called and were about to cheer, and then collectively jump and yelll "ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" right next to them to throw them off!  They were great, costumes and everything

hey ian thanks (i think) for the post of the video!
strange to see it from another perspective
the chant is something we wrote as a team borrowing from the maori language
we are blessed to have a maori member on our team who could help to write it
the chant is meant not to be scary but a challenge of inspiration for all who can hear it
the words are not confrontational in anyway
when next you see a wahine...ask her...she will tell you what they mean
perhaps for a beer ticket Cool
when the competition is great everyone is lifted in their abilities

(the whole "lets mount the boat" thing is another issue indeed...perhaps we could delete that bit out!   Shocked
where did that come from....freudian slip? )

Props to you Mana Wahine!  An awesome race, in that Platinum Final, your team is a force to be reckoned with.  I coach the Dragonrunners team and they have a lot of respect for your team and can't wait to meet up with you in races in the near future.

Thanks for coming to Nanaimo and I hope we see you there again!

They are formidable.  I remember racing their original team last year, but then they were called Warrior Women or something like that.  Standing in the marshalling area with them while the woman with the bandana headband went through their chant made the hair on the back of my neck stand out.  I've seen them a few times since then and listened to her chants.  She is awesome.

I didn't get to meet many of the ladies from manawhine but I did get to hear their chant....it was quite good and Im sure if I was still paddling, I would be terribly intimidated!!
