The California Dragon Boat Association (CDBA) would like to announce April 22nd, 2006 to be the date for the 5th Annual Youth Dragon Boat Regatta.  A dragon boat event just for the kids.  www.cdba.org

Location: San Francisco, CA

Competition is open primarily to High School teams.  Teams are openly invited to come from any part of the world to race in what just might be the biggest youth only dragon boat event in the US.

This one day race includes mixed races as well as boys and girls races.

drop me an email if your team is interested in coming to join the fun!

nah a dance in the school gym isn't such a marketable idea Laughing

pretty sure the trip will interrupt some body's piano schedule anyways, so it's all good,

Ken, please let us know how it turned out Wink

Laoyam has come down to race in the San Francisco Bay area before. I know that is quite a trek and that the cost can be challenging.  but kids travel all over the world for all sorts of activites, so it can be done:-)

if a team from BC wants to make the trip down the local dragon boat community will do it's best to assist.

This high school race is my favorite race i have ever directed.  all the adult paddlers come out to volunteer to make this a very smoothly run race, and the competition is strong as well.

oh man, it was an amazing day of racing.  the weather held up and we all got to stay dray and even see the sun.  but the racing was just incredible.  lots of close races.  lots of teams making their move at the finish line to grab victory in the last strokes.  i can't remember having to look at the video quite so much in previous years.

yes lincoln took the championship spot this year, just edging out lowell.  and yes sun dragons are from portland.

the most noteable feature of this race is that it had a full 24 mixed youth crews.  that is 700+ teenagers in one place.  it is really quite a sight.  this is the biggest field of youth teams we have seen in a cdba race.  I'd like to see any teams from out of town come race with us next year.  i'm not sure but this might be the biggest (and best?) youth race around.

while we don't have laoyam, i think the competition here is pretty substantial.  having loayam and phily youth would make this the fiercest youth race in north america.  so come on everybody come on down!

as for who is going to alcan.  i know that lowell high will be taking up 2 crews.  as for hot hs girls luke, maybe they get older when they cross the border???.... Razz  i'm not sure if any other HS teams are going up this year.

as per local adult teams i haven't heard much.  i do know for sure that DieselFish will be skipping Alcan this year for Victoria so hey todd, the fish will be back on the island.  i won't be there however. i'll be in hawaii for my sisters wedding.  for the other travelling teams i just don't know for sure.  there hasn't been any firm news.  Dragon warriors, BAD, Ripple Effect, Absolute Dragons, Dragon max, Rainbow koi, all have the organization in place to travel so it's anyone's guess right now.

Lincoln?  Congrats to them, they looked pretty fast 04 and 05:

I'm assuming it's 500m?  With the Jr. Division maxed out this yr, it should be very interesting indeed.

And Colossus, BOO,
