Kelowna Dragonboat Club hosted the Kelowna 2005 Centennial Celebrations Dragon Boat Race in Beautiful sunny Peachland on Saturday July 2nd and 3rd. While it is a small cozy event having it spread over 2 days was nice for the DB teams and their families as there is a lot to do in that next of the woods!  It was a unusual way to transports dragonboats but on Saturday some teams took part in a fun relay to paddle the boats from Kelowna to Peachland. Each team took about an hour so and paddled up the lovely home of Ogo-pogo (spelling?) the Okanagan.
The races were held on Sunday at the very civil time of 10:00am with only 12 teams taking part but what was lacking in numbers was more than made up for in Team Spirit! A mix of local teams from Kelowna, Osoyoos, Pentiction and 2 from Fort langley took part. It was a beautiful sunny day in Peachland with a great bar-b-q and realxed mellow paddlers.
The format was 3 races per teams with the accumulated total time of the 3 races determining the winner.
When it was all said and done the winners were.

1st - S.O.A.R - Ft Langley - 7:19
2nd - Blazing Paddles - Kelowna - 7:46
3rd - Just Add Water - Kelowna - 7:51
4th - WOW - Ft Langley - 7:59

Also competing were:
desert Spirit 8:06
stroke of luck  8:13
Paddle your assets 8:20
valley vixens 8:20
twist and shout 8:29
Insync 8:39
Lift whats draggin 8.44
Catch 22 8:52

Thanks to Ivan who ran a tight ship and a great event and to all the hard working volunteers. It may not be a big regatta but it is a good time for the paddlers and their families and friends (can you say wine tour!)
