Let's hear about some Victoria content... the 1st Annual 250m Dragon Boat Spring Super Sprint
Participating teams for this 250m race are...
St'Keya
Absolute Adrenaline
Xtreme Reach
IBS "Full of Spirit"
Wild Things
Navy Dragon Anchors
Selkirk Serpents
Dog Paddlers
ssSteam Heat
Capital Iron Dragons
Snogard Dragons
Apalala
Paddlers of the Fifth Moon
Gorging Dragons
PI
Should be interesting since this will be our first glimpse of the 2005 Gorging Dragons. With the rumors going around, it should be obvious from the results if they're the rumored less serious team.

Are you giving the dogs a rest for Alcan, they only like "swimming" in False Creek? Will they have lots to swim for next weekend so you are tapering them, right?
That will be great if you can give us a report on what happens at the 250m it will let us know something on what is happening on the Island instead of rumours.

Yes
The dog has been doing ladders and a bit more dog paddling with both paws.. The teams are getting faster so its got to be in top shape
Other than that I am interested as well to see what the GDs are up to!

The first annual GO 250 Meter Sprints were held Sunday morning June 12 @ the Gorge Paddling Club.
BIG suprise as the Gorging Dragons were not the winners in an event last year they would have breezed through. Congrats go out to Extreme Reach who bested The GDs and Absolute Andrenaline & the Navy team in the finals. Most heats were very close with the top teams showing excellent timing and power. Rumors regarding the GDs not being a force are true in the sense that they (quote from team member) are taking a year off and are a "beer league team again". A new "Comp" team that is comprised of some GD and KOI dragonaut members has formed (Gorge Rowing and Paddling)and entered in Alcan and should be interesting to watch. It was a well run and organized race with 4 team heats that still ended up in tight packs despite the roomy race course.
Top prize was free entry to the Victoria Island Championships (held the week before the Victoria Festival) and a Free entry to the same race Draw was won by the Navy Anchors.

Is it just me or was seat 6 left on "Capital Iron Dragons" NOT wearing a PFD?
I thought that PFDs were mandatory in races.
BTW: nice pics Lethal!

For a first time session, it was a lot of fun! As there were only 15 teams, it pretty much wrapped up by noon. Everyone there had fun and I think the event will only grow in coming years. 250m was a very fun race.
GD's may have reduced their commitment a bit, but they are still a fast team. I believe they are in a year of rebuilding as they lost several paddlers after last year.
