Came across something interesting while browsing the East Coast board...  In a thread where they were discussing predictions this year's Alcan, someone posted this...

Quote from: Anonymous
Lot's of teams on the bubble -

DWW
FOTB
Storm
TDBA - Draco
CIBC
Dragon Warriors
Layoam
Cdn Juniors
BAD

etc.

So tell me... these teams really on the bubble?  Cuz that's the first time I've heard anything of the sorts.  I would almost say that this person was a paddler from over here....

DWW on the bubble!?!  I joined a team that's on the bubble!?!  What on earth is this guy/gal talking about!?!

Well, DWW and Strathcona are joining up to form two teams/club.  The names may change but pretty much all the DWW paddlers have returned to the club.

Sorry for being mentally dull but what do they mean on the bubble? As in bursting? What's the link to the east coast board anyways?

Bubble means teams on the verge of collapse.

I wouldn't pay it any attention Ron, DWW's one of the best teams teams around and with your guy's coach, are one of those blue chip teams that will always be hovering around the top of the heap.  In fact, that whole list is strange, none of it makes sense.  Whoever put that list up there doesn't appear to even know the teams that well.

It should be noted that post isn't out of place in that forum though.  It's really a bunch of people trash talking each other and each other's teams.  And practically everyone hides b/c they can post anonymously.  You can proclaim yourself the Pope, and no one could do anything about it.  The #1 rule over there is, if you won a race or championship, you rode wash.   Rolling Eyes

But that post is obviously from a person from around here, since "Fotb" as far as I know didn't compete in the Vancouver last year.  They don't know who the relationship between Laoyam Eagles/Falcons and Cdn Juniors, and "those teams" won Rec A Championship in 02, and Comp B in 03.  That's a team on the boil, not the bubble.  And if their coach (wonder if this guy even knows who he is) ever saw that post and met the person, he'd probably pity the fool.

DWW is definately not on the bubble... it's more like the opposite.  I see DWW as a team that will be a dominant force in the years to come.

Welcome back Swordfish.  It's been awhile since we heard from you. Nook is correct that "On the bubble" is a negative term.  Picture being on a bubble not knowing when it will burst and sending you falling down.

I usually visit that board just for a good laugh at all the name calling and trash talking since every thread usually deteriorates to something out of elementary school school yards...

Just checked out the board myself...wow, it's pretty lame and juvenile for somebody to post that.  Obviously doesn't know what they're talking about...

I was just being factitious.  I know DWW is strong and with the possible addition of yours truly, things can only get better. Wink

I can think of several teams that I would consider that are on the bubble, none of which are on that list... I won't name any of them though...
I can't really say much about the non-local teams since I doubt they ever bring their strongest paddlers when travelling, but I would consider those teams on that list to be at the very least second tier teams...  Not quite there yet to be fighting for Number 1 overall but give them some more years and they might eventually get there

Swordfish, how is Swordfish doing this year? You guys had a pretty good year in 2003 with your performances in Alcan and Victoria.

Well I'm sure there'll be some people on our team who'll think we're on the bubble  Wink But I think we'll be just fine...we have a good core bunch that's coming back and we're probably better organized this year than last.  Plus I'll probably be taking on some coaching/conditioning duties this season and I'm going to model myself after the drill sergeant in Full Metal Jacket  Shocked  Just hope nobody shoots me in the head! Laughing  How's the VO2Maxers?
