Title: Introductions
Post by: Photog on April 29, 2003, 11:25:31 AM
Hey all,
seems like there's a lot more people using this forum these days. So let's use this thread for people to introduce themselves.
You can do a description of yourself that includes your age (roughly or exact), gender, nationality, and of course your paddling resume such as which teams you've been with and how many years you've been paddling. Try not to make any political comments.

I'll start. I'm Photog, I'm a 25 yr old asian male from Van., BC and I have been paddling since '95. teams I've paddled with full time are "Up The Creek" the defunct Gladstone Sec. team, and Vo2, my current team.
I've paddled part time for the Civil Serpants last summer for the Vic festival, and have raced with Diesel Fish from San Fran, and The Multnomah Channel Canoe Club from Portland.
It's funny how I ended up on this team. I wanted to continue paddling when I finished high school, and my friend was on his gf's team - Vo2.
So he invited me to come try out and I made it. the next year, they broke up and neither returned to the team, but I stayed.  8)

Guess I'll join in on this...

Hi I'm chaos... and I'm an alcoholic... :(
25 year old Chinese male straight from the rice paddies of Southeast China, known for my dry sense of humor (some may call it abrasive)

Started dragonboat back in '95 with Just Dragon Along, hence the old school spelling of "dragonboat".  Been with VO2 since its creation except for '97 when I was with the SFU team, Kilted Phoegons (now Adrenaline) and in '99 when I was in Toronto for a friend's graduation and a cousin's wedding. Did some merc work for Nokia Dragon Hearts at Victoria '02 and wouldn't mind merc'ing out to other teams if the price is right

Currently I take care of the administration duties for VO2 cuz somebody's gotta do it... and screw up...and get into situations like the following...

"I'd like to order jerseys for my dragonboat team, please"
"Thank you.. your order will be ready by June 17th"
"ehh??? That's after when we need it!!"
"Sorry, but we need seven weeks to complete orders"
"But what is my team gonna wear at the festival???"
"You could always go topless..."
"umm.. yeah... HAVE YOU EVER SEEN MY TEAM?!?!?!"

Don't worry guys... I've got it all under control  :shifty:

Well, if we don't have jerseys......

"Sorry ladies, we couldn't get the jerseys in time," chaos says as he throws a tarp over the box of jerseys that just came in, "we'll just have to go topless"   8)

Hi all you west coast people!

After some urging and arm twisting and harassment from Chaos, i finally joined this thing to see what the big deal is.  8)

I'm in Toronto paddling for the Stingrays; been doing it since 2000 and it doesn't get any easier! Last year i was a paddle slut and joined a couple of other teams for races, one of which was the Baycrest Blades (Chia paddled for them) and man they are powerful!

Anyway, i'll probably just be a lurker here cus you guys are weird Vancouverites.  :P Check out my website (is there a button on the bottom?) if you want more info on the Stingrays. Maybe we'll race one day!

x

Hi,

will the stingrays & baycrest blades be at the Montreal Festival?  My team will be going there under the name "West Coast Jambalaya".

Stingrays sounds so familiar, did Chia coach for your team before?

Title: montreal
Post by: Sun on May 17, 2003, 05:10:07 PM
Yeah Stingrays will be making the trip to Montreal! Don't know about the Blades though, but most likely!

And yeah Chia was our coach last year, and he paddled with us in previous years.

Cool man, see ya in montreal!

.....watchout behind me, it's gonna get wet.

I find it's usually people in front that get splashed more than the people behind.  All it takes is the paddle tapping the water on the way back to the reach and all of a sudden everyone ahead of you wishes they were wearing a raincoat.

I find I do that more often at the very start of the practice when I'm not quite warmed up yet and at the end when I'm almost too tired to lift the paddle out of the water.

Willpower was our coach, kool guy=] This year found enough people on my team and then almost lost it due to underaged paddlers.... got that solved and hopefully we'll continue next year.

Welcome aboard Swordfish.
We've got people on VO2 that know people on Sagit..err.. Starbucks (still can't get used to that) and Team Storm.  Actually Nook paddled for Sagit in '00 and Moto paddled for them in '01 (Is that correct?? All these years are starting to blur into each other)

*Bump* Now the thread's at the top again...

Hey everyone,

My name's Kungpow.  Istarted paddling in 96 on Gladstone's old "Up The Creek" with Photog.  Since then I've gone onto Team Apocalypse, which has since evolved into Team M-Power currently.

Work keeps me quite busy and I'm usually working abroad for months at a time so I haven't been paddling full-time for the last 2 years.  My role has sorta been to help manage the team when needed.

Glad to be a part of this forum!  :D

Hi all,

Guess I should get these formalities over with...

I'm Kibble also known as Candice.  This would be my...5th year? paddling...wow, it's been that long already?!   I'm currently with TD Lightning, the previous 4 years with the Nokia teams.

I also co-moderate for the DragonBoatForum (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DragonBoatForum/) Yahoogroup...more of an international-flavoured forum.  There's alot of internationally-based info posted here so if you're looking to travel to various different festivals abroad and swap dragonboat stories...here's the place to be!

Hope to hear more good info posted on this forum...so far it's been pretty cool!   :D

Hello    My name is Lisa ...

I have been paddling for a long time.  I got into the sport through my ex-fiance (long story) and have been an addict ever since :)

I started out with SFU, then stuck with the team as we morphed into a Lotus team, then we morphed again into Adrenaline ... then we morphed into thin air.  I am now paddling with the Drunk'n Dragons on the "Blue Dojo" team (a.k.a. competitive team).

Just for fun, a coworker/team-mate and I decided to start a team at our school :)  And so, we are coaching the first-ever St Thomas More Knights dragonboat team!  Nothing's more amusing than sitting in a boat watching 22 green paddlers try to figure out how to paddle and keep time! :)

I'm really looking forward to this season!   Nothing beats dragonboat ... well, almost

You think because you guys are football champs means you can dragon boat too?!?!    Just joking, it is rather amazing how at least one of your football teams wins the Subway Bowl every year. But I wish the dood (whom i assume is your yrbk or photo teacher) would stop roaming up and down the sidelines behind the media photographers screaming "Go Knights!" all the time.
Anyways, welcome, and it is wonderful seeing such a diverse community of people participating in this sport.  :D

My turn!

I'm Kandice (with a "K") and I'm with M-Power. I'm easy to spot in the boat as I'm the "Token White Girl".

This is my first year paddling and I'm having a blast. Had a blast at Alcan and I can't wait till Kelowna.

Nice to meet  you all!

ok, my turn. I'm ~@ngel~, white female, 23 years old and I've been paddling since 99.  I paddled for 2 years on "Go West" and Community Centre team from west Richmond which dissapeared after those 2 years....then I paddled for 2 years on "TCC Carib Dragoneers" (yes yes- rec A division GOld medal in 2003), and this year I joined Acme Canoe Club.  You may have seen me on the runway at the "Fashion SHow at Crush"-thanks photog for taking all those pics.
