Title: Rope paddle rack
Post by: DesertPike on November 18, 2015, 04:00:06 PM
I know Ive seen a couple teams do it at festivals. Make a team paddle rack using just rope and some knots. Been looking around the net for best knots to use for this and such but cant find anything. Anyone do this for their team or know of a site/page that could have instructions? The wooden racks are just to cumbersome.

I just use a simple slip-knot daisy-chain (also know as a sea-chain), although I've seen other ways as well. But the sea chain is super fast, easy to learn, and unties even faster. The sea-chain creates a paddle rack that is just under a third the length of your rope. So 15 meters of rope will give you between 4 and 5 meters of paddle rack; enough for the standard tent, and enough for one team. You can use cheap utility cord, but my favourite was 15 meters of buoyant heaving line from an inexpensive kayak rescue throwbag bought at MEC. Add a couple of large carabiners to the throwbag and the rack is super quick and easy to hang.

A Google search resulted in this overly long video of the sea-chain technique.

Cool, thanks. Ill grab a small portion of rope and give it a try before buying proper rope for the final piece.
