Title: FCRCC OC-6 Water Changes – Vancouver Aquatic Center, March 6th, 2015
Post by: FCRCC on February 04, 2015, 02:58:26 PM
This 2-hour clinic is designed for those paddlers who have usually competed in iron or sprint OC-6 races and are now looking for their next OC-6 challenge – Long Distance Change Races.

Longer outrigger canoe races can be up to 48 km plus in distance.  These long distance change races generally consist of nine paddlers being rotated out through water changes, giving each paddler time to rest.  A water change is when a paddler is dropped off in the water by an escort boat and then climbs into the moving boat while the relieved paddler jumps out. Changes can be challenging and fun RATHER than intimidating and scary.  The secret to doing a successful water change is to learn to do it slowly from start to finish.

Paddlers will have the opportunity to practice different techniques of how to enter and exit the OC-6 slowly under supervised and safe conditions.
