1) Be a competent steers person that the team likes 2) Be a loud, lightweight drummer that the team likes 3) Be a good coach that the team likes 4) Be a strong paddler that can complete a 5km time trial in an OC-1 in less than 25 minutes. Paddling left or right. In this case, the team may not even have to like you So, you have a few options to choose from. Good luck! Corporate teams are the cheapest way to go.
6) Try Dragonzone's Join-a-Team program for a low price. www.dragonboatbc.ca (http://www.dragonboatbc.ca) 7) Dragonhearts Breaker & Attack are teams that are cheap to join. Friendly too. 8) Be extremely good looking 9) Bribe the coach 10) Camouflage yourself into a novice team at Alcan where nobody knows each other anyway. 11) Make your own dragonboat team and set your own price. Sometimes the coaching is factored in too. Dragon boats and the equipment (paddles, life jackets, lights, etc) need to be bought, maintained, and replaced. The more often your team practices, the more it has to pay. Festivals need to plan, organize, and (during the event) coordinate. Larger festivals take more effort. If you are in Vancouver, the fee doesn't even cover all of these expenses. Dragon Zone and the Alcan festival rely on volunteers. If they hire paid staff instead, then your fee would be even worse.
