GO Rowing & Paddling is offering free use of the dragon boats on the Friday and/or Sunday for teams who make a donation to Muscular Dystrophy. This is the second year that the sprints have been a fundraiser. Long-time Penticton dragon boat coach, Brad Crittenden suffers from Pompe Disease, a debilitating condition that falls under the Muscular Dystrophy "umbrella". The Penticton Paddling Center has donated use of the boats for training to make the weekend more of a draw for out of town teams. "Being able to book further training times during the sprint weekend makes this worth it for out of town teams to attend", said Don Mulhall, local paddling organizer. "Teams can turn the weekend into a training camp, and get access to beautiful Skaha Lake, site of the Raymond James Penticton Dragon Boat Festival in September".
