Title: NEW NOVICE BLIND TEAM - VISION IMPOSSIBLE - LOOKING FOR VI PADDLERS Post by: Shaggin_Diamond on March 22, 2011, 09:33:52 AM Hi All,
We are very excited to set up a novice visually impaired team, called Vision Impossible (VI). The team is fully sponsored by BC Blind Sports. Please share this advert with anyone you know who is visually impaired and interested in trying out dragon boating! We have a short but fun season planned. We have 7 Sunday late morning practices and will participate at the Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon boat festival. Recruitment meeting will be at CNIB on Wednesday 30 March at 6:30 pm. Please feel free to e-mail me or respond to this post if you have any questions. See information below: Recreational level Can be any level of fitness Novice team so no paddling experience necessary Minimum age 19 years old Looking for up to 12 VI paddlers Can commit to our team for an 8 week time frame Once a week practice on Sunday's at 11 am (starting April 17th until mid June) - DragonZone (Meet at Creekside Community Centre) Race in one festival - Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival - June 11-12 Life jackets and paddles supplied Vision Impossible (VI) is a brand new dragonboat team looking for paddlers. No paddling experience is necessary. Enjoying being on the water and exercise are the only requirements along with a sense of fun! Over a short 8 week duration, starting in mid-April until mid-June, this is a great opportunity to introduce you to the sport and the dragonboat community. We have an experienced coach, steersperson and drummer to mentor us. Regardless of level of vision, age, or athletic ability, anyone can participate independently. We paddle in rhythm to the motion of the boat, working together as a team. This is one of the few sports where no adaptations or concessions are given to the team to compete against sighted athletes. We will be holding our first team meeting on Weds 30 March, 6:30 pm, at the CNIB (5055 Joyce Street, Vancouver - nearest Skytrain - Joyce). Even if you are mildly interested in learning about our team, we would encourage you to come out to the meeting. One change to our practice schedule. To accommodate more visually impaired paddlers for our team, our first practice still remains as Sunday 17 April, but after this point, practices will move to Saturdays (meeting at 11 am at Creekside Community Centre). Please contact me if you are visually impaired and want to join our team. If you have a sighted guide/family member/partner/friend, they are also welcome to join us (I just need advance notice). First practice in only 2 weeks time! Guen |
