Dragon Boat West

Fluid Motion is a Mixed Adult Recreational team practicing out of Dragonzone on Monday and Thursday nights at 6:00 pm. We are looking for dedicated paddlers (experience not required) who are willing to:

1) Commit to attending two practices a week (Monday and Thursday) starting now until mid-September;
2) Be an active participant in team fundraising events
3) Attend all or most of the team selected festivals for the 2011 season:

• Lotus Dragon Boat Regatta - Saturday, May 7, Burnaby
• Dragon Zone 500m Regatta - Sunday, May 29, False Creek
• Nanaimo Dragonboat Festival - Friday, July 8 to Sunday, July 10, Nanaimo
• Harrison Dragonboat Festival - Saturday, July 23, Harrison Hot Springs
• and possibly one or two more in August and September

Cost per paddler:
$300 (50% due now; 50% due end of Apr); balance to be raised through active participation in team fundraising events. This latter amount will vary based on the final number of paddlers on the roster and the total amount of expenses once all the festivals have announced their early bird registration information.
 
Note: Travel, accommodation and incidental costs to all festivals will be additional expenses to each paddler. Accommodations are normally prearranged for the team and are based on group rates and quad occupancy whenever possible. Carpooling is also a possibility to all events.
 
Fee includes:

• registration at Dragonzone for use of their equipment all year round including dragonboats, marathon canoes, outrigger canoes, and soon to arrive ocean kayaks
• registration at all team selected festivals
• coaching with an experienced coach
• group rate accommodation arrangements at all overnight festivals (each paddler is responsible for sharing the actual cost of the room based on occupancy)
• organized fundraising activities to help you raise money to cover your costs

• Racing with a group of dedicated paddlers who love to have fun as much as they love to win medals
• Coaching with an experienced coach that will help improve your technique and experience with the sport
