Ever wanted to help out the sustainability of Wild Salmon?

Experienced paddlers are needed to help raise attention to the sustainability and importance of the Sockeye Salmon.

Paddling from Hope (20th), Chilliwack (21st), Matsqui /Abbotsford (22nd) Katzie/Pitt Meadows (23rd) and Musqueam (24th) to Jericho Beach.

Stand Up for Wild Salmon!

The Get Out Migration marches on with a flotilla, walk and rally in Vancouver on 25th October. Paddlers leave Hope on 20th October with various events en route - in Hope (19th), Chilliwack (20th), Matsqui /Abbotsford (21st) Katzie/Pitt Meadows (22nd) and Musqueam (23rd). Please join the flotilla in Vancouver Harbor from 9am on Monday 25th October and march from Vanier Park over Burrard Bridge to DFO, the Cohen Commission and then for a rally at the Art Gallery from Noon. Paddlers include Alexandra Morton, Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, Chief Bob Chamberlin,Chief Marilyn Baptiste, Grand Chief Saul Terry Chief Bev Sellars, Fin Donnelly MP and Bill Bourne.

Darwin Boerg of Fraser River Raft Expeditions will be along for the whole paddle along with their Zodiac. Search and Rescue all along the river has been notified of the paddle and a few SAR trainees will be along. Skippers James Healy, Ray Natrauro, Wes Nahanee, Marc Caplan, and Eric Baker will be along.

For day two, members of Skwah First Nation will be joining from their territory. They know the river like the fish. As we paddle down river, representatives from each area will join. The RCMP has also been notified about the paddle from Hope. CBC news will be at the launch, so we'll want to be set for safety.

There are also many other experienced paddlers who will be along to balance out the less experienced paddlers.

I'll be glad to answer any other questions so long as you promise not to back out! We just lost a skipper to the flu.

Thanks Todd. Your friend Oliver has just signed on for the 23rd and 24th too. We have room for more paddlers to join on the 22nd to 25th. We have canoes available for another 30 people in total if they are interested in joining.

We will be paddling from Katzie First Nations (underneath the North Side of the Golden Ears Bridge) from 8:00 am, paddling until 10:30 where paddlers will arrive in New Westminster for an event hosted by the Fraser River Discovery Centre with a welcome from the Qayqayt Nation and MP Finn Donnelly.

At noon we will leave New Westminster to continue our paddle down the river. We will be met on the river by members of Musqueam's Fisheries Officers at the entrance to their territory and escorted to the Musqueam Band Hall.

Sunday the plan is to leave Musqueam around 9am and paddle around Point Grey to arrive at noon for celebrations on the beach at Jericho on the afternoon of the 24th!   If the winds don't co-operate, there is a Plan B for safety.
