Title: Coaching Scholarships for Youth Team Members Post by: IronGiant on August 30, 2010, 05:35:28 PM We had a good year with fundraising and would like to give a little bit back.
Our team would like to offer $200 coaching 'scholarships' to two qualified members of a BC-based youth dragon boat team to attend one of the upcoming Water's Edge full-day coaching clinics. Details below. Like Ritchie Bros. does, our dragon boat team decided to invest in a sustainable community leadership opportunity in amateur youth sport. As we all know, one good coach can influence hundreds of paddlers over their career. [Hopefully other teams with extra funds can make similar offers or add clinic seats on to this one ...!?] About the Scholarship: - Applicants that otherwise would not have access to these clinics are preferred e.g. where there is a financial or social need. - Winners can select from either 'Dragon Boat Coaching Level 1' for beginners or 'Coaches Critical Eye' for novices who have some experience. - Water's Edge clinics are usually held in November in Vancouver's False Creek area. - Full descriptions are at www.canpaddle.com (http://www.canpaddle.com) under 'Services' and 'Custom Clinics'. To apply: - Youth team coaches/captains can submit the names of youth team members that are committed to pursuing dragon boat coaching. - Applications should include a brief description of the paddler’s current abilities, the paddler’s desire and aptitude for coaching, what they bring to the sport, and how a scholarship would help e.g. financial or social need. - Youth team members can also make submissions but please discuss with your current coach/captain first and ask them to submit the application on your behalf. - If there are multiple submissions, our team will review the submissions and select the two candidates that best fit the criteria. - Applicants have to meet any other requirements set out by Water's Edge - if there are any issues, we'll work something out. - Send your submissions to Laurie Kinsman at lkinsman@rbauction.com by Friday, September 17. Good Luck! Title: Re: Coaching Scholarships for Youth Team Members Post by: puppy on August 30, 2010, 09:00:25 PM Full kudos to Ritchie Brothers and anyone willing to help the youth.
Title: Re: Coaching Scholarships for Youth Team Members Post by: IronGiant on September 29, 2010, 11:45:23 PM Congratulations to Anthony Sze and Gerrison Tang - both recent Eric Hamber grads - for each being awarded a $200 scholarship to attend one of the upcoming Water's Edge Coaching Clinics.
Can't wait to see their passion for paddling translate into hundreds more kids excited about this sport. Title: Re: Coaching Scholarships for Youth Team Members Post by: mandachan on September 30, 2010, 12:46:00 AM I don't know who could be better candidates than these two fine gentlemen. I have respected Eric Hamber since my first memories on the water, as fellow competitors and as people. They do things the right way... pure and classy. And, Hamber has an intense, cooperative, encouraging, yet playful paddling culture that I love seeing every time I visit the creek. Anthony and Gerrison are now coaches for this team and I'm sure they will lead their Spartan team to victory once more.
Go get 'em Anthony & Gerrison! Title: Re: Coaching Scholarships for Youth Team Members Post by: NFW on October 02, 2010, 01:52:29 PM Manda's right! I couldn't think of any better candidates than these two!
