How many divisions will there be at this regatta ?   Or is it just simply an open event ?

Title: Re: FCRCC Spring Regatta
Post by: Rob on April 16, 2010, 06:05:58 AM
There will not be any age divisions, if that is what you are referencing to.  There will be Mixed, Mens and Women's divisions.

There will be different finals, for rec teams and comp teams, but everyone will race each other in the heats.

ah so the Comp and Rec teams will be separated....Thanks sign us up.

If anyone would like to buy out Banana Fusion's spot @ the earlybird price, please let me know. We can't wrangle enough Bananas for this weekend and would hate to pull out without a refund.

Earlybird: $300
Regular (if you were to sign up now): $400

Save $100!!! Use it for a team dinner after!

PM me or email [email protected]
Thanks!

That is actually almost the exact same I had in mind, except with Riptide... they have been looking great this season. We'll see what they come up with.

Who's Grey Whale?

Where do you see Riptide coming in?  It will be interesting to see if either of us gets it exactly right

I haven't heard of Grey Whale before

that's an odd question to ask about your own team (aka Brown Pants = swordfish and banana fusion), manda... or are you quizzing us? do i win anything?

You weren't supposed to give it away!
Grey Whale = Bring Me My Brown Pants = Banana Fusion + Swordfish because neither of the teams could come up with enough people.

BMMBP just wanted to pay tribute to our new creek friend.

I think Manda meant "Where's Grey Whale", because Grey Whale was not included in the prediction list. This of course leads to the question "Who's Grey Whale". Mo, you're answer to the question is correct. As a prize, Ed can change Kyle's next diaper.

Well, if I had known anything about Grey Whale I probably would have put them on my list of predictions somewhere after Phat Phish.  Maybe after RGL...  (I say this not knowing the results of today's events.)
Anyone have the results from today?  Was I even close?

I will try to have the results soon.  I will try to have the final placings tonight, and have the times posted in the next couple of days.

I would like to thank TD lightning for doing an excellent job organizing their first Regatta, and putting up with my race grid that caused the delays.  I would also like to thank Puppy and the rest of the volunteers.  Thank you to all the teams for putting up with the delays and my mistakes, I hope you had fun anyway.

Cheers,
Rob

I only have the results for the "Grand Final" but if memory serves correct:

1st: FCRCC HP
2nd: Dragon Hearts Magnum (Close race between them and FCRCC)
3rd: Masters of D'Zone
4th: Dragon Hearts Ultimate (Close race between them and Masters)
5th: Grey Whale
6th: Sudden Impact Black (Again, close race between them and Grey Whale)

Hey Rob, FCRCC and TD...

We know there was a few glitches  :? out there but I think most of us enjoyed the racing component.

There were some incrediblely close races today and that's what the Spring Regatta's about.  It's a time to tinker with your race plan and adjust accordingly. A great warm up race for the season.

TD Lightning and volunteers out there, you did a great job without any training. I respect your dedication and preserverance in handling all the glitches with true class  .

At least the weather was nice...not like Deep Cove where no one was spared from the wet weather.

Rob, thanks for running the FCRCC Spring Regatta and we can make it bigger next year.

Until the next race....

see you all soon.

Puppy

A few questions have come up...

What do the points mean, and do they transfer to other regattas? And... what if the team doesn't register under the same name for subsequent regattas?

Grey Whale is "Bring Me My Brown Pants" in disguise.

Post by: NFW on May 16, 2010, 10:10:15 PM
I dont think the points transfers to any other regatta, the points are most likely just a way to determine which team(s) gets the the prizes/goodies/beers.

This is because of the fact that there is 2 diff types of distance in the races, so it would be a fair way to determine the winner/top 3. I'm sure this is designed to emulate the way the upcoming nationals at Whistler is supposed to work.

Wow....Magnum's really giving FCRCC HP a challenge.  I've been paddling for 5 years now and I haven't seen any team in the area beat FCRCC HP yet.....maybe this year?  Good stuff Magnum.

Glad to know False Creek is the home of the world's best dragonboat teams!

Anyone that paddles regularly out of FCRCC knows that Magnum has been working very hard, they are out in solo boats almost everyday, should be a great Alcan

This is Magnum's year. They live on the water now. I can't go to Alder Bay without seeing a Magnum paddler go out. They are working their butts off and it's paying off well!
Agreed - Alcan 2010 shall be epic.

Sorry it took a while - the 200 metre results were lost by accident, and we'd hoped to be able to locate a spare copy ... but after much diggin', it's no joy.

Ah, what the heck, let's just figure everyone was under a minute in the 200s!  :D

Perhaps the timer was so shocked with Magnum's 1:53:38, he dropped his stopwatch, stepped on it accidentally, picked it up, brushed it off, blew on it Nintendo style and pressed "stop"

Good job guys :)

I hope the results do get changed...

Although it may be arbitrary to a lot of people, that 1:53.38 time meant a lot to us on Magnum because of how hard we worked to get to that point. I know it's an easy mistake to make, as an 8 and a 3 can be confused at times especially with handwriting, but I hope it really does get changed because otherwise it'd be a disservice to all other competitive teams who put in the time & effort to reach their goals.
