Title: Portland
Post by: Martini on January 18, 2010, 10:39:28 AM
Hi all,

My team is trying to decide between Portland and Toronto for our season ending festival this year. I've been to Toronto so I know what to expect there but haven't been to Portalnd. Can someone whose participated in that festival let me know their thoughts?

Cheers,
Martini

Portland is a lot of fun. It's on the Willamette right downtown so there's also lots to wander off and do between races.  The water can be pretty gnarly though with the jet boats speeding by so it's good to have an experienced steersperson with good balance.  There's a lot of good competition and the festival is well run.  It's extremely reasonably priced too compared to a lot of Canadian festivals.  We've gone the last 2 years and will definitely take a crew again this year.

Other plusses - tax free shopping and outlet malls.  I'm not a shopper but usually stock up on all sorts of running stuff while down there.

I'm assuming you're talking about the festival in Sept right, not June?

+1 for Portland.
Only negative is the lane issue (watch out for the eddy near the finish in Lane 1).
Otherwise it's a really fun race.

Portland is a GREAT venue.  The view of the course is excellent.  Announcing is excellent.  Organization is excellent.  Venue and tents, vending, beer garden, marshalling area, dock crew, and level of competition, all EXCELLENT!
