Title: Victoria Grid Available Post by: Katy on August 10, 2009, 11:28:57 AM For those that haven't been on the Victoria site recently, the grid is up...
http://www.victoriadragonboat.com/assets/Race~Updates/2009_Victoria_Dragon_Boat_Festival_Grid.pdf Good luck to all teams! Title: Re: Victoria Grid Available Post by: butter on August 12, 2009, 08:28:03 AM Be sure to check the site again before the weekend as the grid may change.
See you all in a few days! Let's go sun! Title: Re: Victoria Grid Available Post by: CCR-MGR on August 12, 2009, 02:12:45 PM how does one obtain the entire race grid, opposed to just the first heats?
Title: Re: Victoria Grid Available Post by: Katy on August 12, 2009, 02:36:43 PM Go to the festival site www.victoriadragonboat.com, hunt around the drop downs (I think it's team info or race info or something like that) and the schedule should be there, of course it all builds on your first race but at least you know on paper how late things are scheduled.
Title: Re: Victoria Grid Available Post by: Dr. Evil on August 12, 2009, 08:01:28 PM Looks like the race organizers have made amendments to the race grid. Latest update done today. Quite a few revisions so if you're racing this weekend, double check to make sure you've got the right grid and the right start and heat times. Newest grid can be found here:
http://www.victoriadragonboat.com/EN/main/race_information/3642.html Title: Re: Victoria Grid Available Post by: DiggerPig on August 13, 2009, 11:32:36 AM WOW only 77 teams registered by my count. Is that a low for Victoria? Isn't there usually close to 90? This is one of the best venues to paddle at.
I also noticed that a lot of the comp place division teams on the mainland are not going to be there? No Masters, No Magnum, No Pemberton... Don't get me wrong there are still great Comp teams from The Island like Navy Dragon Anchors, Xtreme Reach, QF Blu By U, Dragonauts and Precision Impossible Portland has great teams like Hampton Woods and Portland Firedragons Calgary as well like CDBC Crew Yahoo and Topmade Fusion Comp A Finals Prediction 1. Hampton Woods 2. Navy Dragon Anchors 3. Xtreme Reach 4. Portland Firedragons 5. CDBC Crew Yahoo Other teams that might break the top 4-5 spot – Dragonauts, RGL, Topmade, and Precision Impossible Title: Re: Victoria Grid Available Post by: Illuminate on August 13, 2009, 11:43:48 AM Could be because teams like Masters and Magnum had originally signed up for Seattle which was only a week after Victoria
Title: Re: Victoria Grid Available Post by: NFW on August 13, 2009, 01:34:03 PM Yep, was supposed to be concentrating on Seattle.
In any case, I think BC Ferries fees is overly expensive, IMHO. Title: Re: Victoria Grid Available Post by: Katy on August 13, 2009, 01:56:43 PM And now you know why a lot of Island teams don't race on the mainland often!
Title: Re: Victoria Grid Available Post by: NFW on August 14, 2009, 01:13:13 PM lol indeed.
We were lucky last year because the BC Ferries had a booth at the Festival and were handing out free Ferry tickets for answering their surveys..So we only had to pay for the car fee on the way back...Saved us a huge amount of money haha Title: Victoria Results and photos Post by: Lethal Weapon on August 17, 2009, 08:24:15 AM Just got back from Victoria and it was an awesome weekend of racing!

Title: Re: Victoria Results and photos Post by: NavyRob on August 17, 2009, 05:37:11 PM Thanks for the congrats, Illuminate, and thanks to the all the Platinum teams who at no point gave the impression that they couldn't have easily taken first place. I know some will be out for blood in Portland and Kelowna.
By the way Butter (hopefully you're getting some rest now), please pass on Navy's deep felt appreciation for all the excellent volunteers this year. Title: Re: Victoria Results and photos Post by: sweet heat on August 17, 2009, 08:14:27 PM It's so awesome to see a Calgary team not only make it into the Platinum A final, but to come out with a podium finish! Way to go Crew Yahoo!!
Title: Re: Victoria Results and photos Post by: wanker on August 17, 2009, 08:18:59 PM Congrats Navy. Camera caught Rob peeking though. Eyes in your own boat, mister. :P
Title: Re: Victoria Results and photos Post by: butter on August 17, 2009, 08:40:46 PM Hey Rob,
Thanks for the kind words. Glad you guys came out on top this weekend. It was a fitting end and your team deserved it after the hard work you've all done. Thanks to the entire team for your help this weekend. Title: Re: Victoria Results and photos Post by: DiggerPig on August 17, 2009, 08:56:04 PM CONGRATS NAVY!!!! I should have picked you for first but I though Hampton was Kia in disguise ... Way to go! Ok I am sort of a Navy fan ... geez my Army friends would beat me if they saw this ...
Title: Re: Victoria Results and photos Post by: NavyRob on August 17, 2009, 11:08:46 PM Congrats Navy. Camera caught Rob peeking though. Eyes in your own boat, mister. :P Wanker... "Caught"?? I challenge you to find any pictures taken from the south shore where my eyes aren't locked on Seat 1! I preach big reach and rotation to NDA, that's all you're seeing. Did anyone notice how all paddlers in all the visible boats are basically in the same phase of their stroke? That looks pretty cool. Title: Re: Victoria Results and photos Post by: NFW on August 17, 2009, 11:47:17 PM Congrats Navy for taking it all! :D
Did anyone notice how all paddlers in all the visible boats are basically in the same phase of their stroke? That looks pretty cool. cool beans! Title: Re: Victoria Results and photos Post by: chewie on August 18, 2009, 08:31:12 AM Hey folks .. my first post here!
Congrats to Navy for the victory on Sunday! They were certainly the class of the field and VERY consistent all weekend! As a proud member of Crew Yahoo I can say we were absolutely thrilled with a bronze! It was so close with all three teams within a second of each other! We Yahoos just need to work more on our finish as our start rocks! :D I've been doing this for 8 years now and that was probably the BEST race I have ever been in .. and that includes the World's last year in Penang with Pond Scum! The timing of these pictures with all three boats in time is VERY cool! As a former sailor (navigating officer) I was happy to sing along with Navy when they did "Heart of Oak"! Haven't done that in a while! :D Cheers! Chewie Title: does anyone happen to have photos of the Jade A and B finish in Victoria? Title: Re: Victoria Results and photos Post by: NavyRob on August 28, 2009, 01:09:53 PM A gentleman from work is getting into photography. Total coincidence here, he has nothing to do with our sport but he thought the Victoria DB Festival would be a good place to practice taking action shots. After he let me know, I asked him if he could put them online for me to share. These 79 pictures were shot from the start line on the south side of the course.
