Title: World Police & Fire Games - Volunteers Needed Post by: Waters Edge on July 21, 2009, 02:16:15 PM Hello Dragon Boat Community,
Water's Edge is currently seeking volunteers for the World Police & Fire Games - Dragon Boat Racing (10's and 20's). The event will be happening on False Creek at the Plaza of Nations. Positions that we are looking to fill: Friday, August 7 - Set Up Crews and Steerspeople for Practices (both morning and afternoon shifts) Saturday, August 8 - Volunteers of various positions for race management. For more information and to sign-up, please contact Jackie Webber at [email protected]. Please put WPFG Volunteer in the subject line and indicate your availability. Cheers. Water's Edge Title: Re: World Police & Fire Games - Volunteers Needed Post by: IronGiant on August 04, 2009, 03:41:36 PM Has anyone steered one of the 10's before? ... how do they feel? tips to watch for? ... or just try it, you'll like it?
I am volun-steering both days so will be trial by water. Should be a great day of action. Just don't try to steal, burn, or smuggle anything. Title: Re: World Police & Fire Games - Volunteers Needed Post by: Backward Rowing on August 04, 2009, 04:38:45 PM Laws of physics still apply. Agoild be tippier, turnable and better acceleration. Should I take a few pix of you just in case?
Title: Re: World Police & Fire Games - Volunteers Needed Post by: IronGiant on August 04, 2009, 04:50:02 PM I'm not the lightest cat in the herd, so the sploosh and skadoosh should be spectacular ... and best captured on a high speed sports setting. If I break the Laws of Physics while steering a boat full of police officers am I still liable?

Title: Re: World Police & Fire Games - Volunteers Needed Post by: madcap on August 06, 2009, 02:49:19 PM I heard to-day that the dragonboat races are being held at the Plaza of Nations from 8AM til 6PM in 10 man dragonboats. This from a reasonable source, but not an official.

Title: Re: World Police & Fire Games - Volunteers Needed Post by: Colossus on August 07, 2009, 10:32:08 AM BOOOO! looks like rain is the weather of the day for Saturday. It'll be better than 30+ degree weather, but I'd rather have a little less rain and a little more sun.
Title: Re: World Police & Fire Games - Volunteers Needed Post by: paddleboy on August 08, 2009, 07:23:34 PM anyone have the results from today ?
Title: Re: World Police & Fire Games - Volunteers Needed Post by: Colossus on August 08, 2009, 08:48:48 PM We got 1st in mixed 10s, 2nd in men's 10s and 3rd in mixed 20s. didn't do so hot in the men's 20s - 4th or 5th i think? Total of 11 races today. It might have been the kick I needed to get back into dragonboating, instead of just outrigger on my own time.

Title: Re: World Police & Fire Games - Volunteers Needed Post by: Colossus on August 12, 2009, 09:38:40 PM Depends on who is sitting beside me.... If they're tiny, its hard to keep the same amount of water time as each other because it feels like I'm doing ups for the entire piece. If we're similar in height, its much easier.
Title: Re: World Police & Fire Games - Volunteers Needed Post by: DiggerPig on August 13, 2009, 11:03:26 AM Colossus did a great job in lead stroke! He'll do an even better job in New York 2011.
Yes Impact Shield must defend it's Mixed 10's GOLD and take the Gold in Mixed 20's and Mens 10 & 20. It's only two years away and I hope to bring a strong enough team to challenge for gold in all divisions. 8)) |
