Great race site and great racing all day. The shuttle bus from Cates Park was a good idea and I really appreciated not having to fight for parking in the cove.
Congrats to the FCRCC guys and gals for a great performace taking the opening regatta of the year. Immense props and respect for Dragon Hearts Magnum. It looks like you guys have really stepped it up and will be a force to be reckoned with in the higher comp rankings. I don't have all the results, but from memory here is my best effort. Other than very minor oddities and some delays, I enjoyed it and had a blast racing again. It's been way too long since the last regatta, and there is nothing like good, tight races to get your blood pumping for the season.
;) Congrats to FCRCC, Pacific Reach, Sudden Impact Black, and TCC Dragoneers, mainly for giving us a heck of challenge and make sure that we don't get off on the wrong stroke. Can't wait for more photos and videos to show up! Title: Re: Deep Cove Dash Post by: Lethal Weapon on April 25, 2009, 11:01:29 PM Anyone have the other results?
Was there a womens division? I am tooooooooooooooo far away........ :( Title: Re: Deep Cove Dash Post by: Biscuit on April 26, 2009, 01:02:19 PM Yes, there was a women's division. I'm not 100% sure of Consolation results but the Championship A was:
1. False Creek Women, 2. Dragon Ladies, 3. Saggin Dragons. Congrats to all teams in both the mixed and women's divisions. Awesome day! :D Title: Re: Deep Cove Dash Post by: kryssee on April 26, 2009, 04:07:09 PM Yes, there was a women's division. 18 teams to be exact. Why is it that no one seems to really care about posting the results of that division? We race our asses off just the same! And we beat mixed teams to get there! So, how about when posting "all results"..ALL results actually get posted!
Title: Re: Deep Cove Dash Post by: Biscuit on April 26, 2009, 05:43:23 PM Well said, Kryssee. I couldn't agree more.
Title: Re: Deep Cove Dash Post by: kryssee on April 26, 2009, 05:46:12 PM Yes..to add to their top 3 women's results..you can put Water Warriors in 4th..and hot on the top 3's tails!
Title: Re: Deep Cove Dash Post by: fortlangleydragonboat on April 26, 2009, 07:44:55 PM And Fort Langley Sun Dragons were hot on their tails!
Still waiting for all times to be posted. Great racing and venue. Only complaint was the long wait on the dock while all the other teams were waiting at the start line when there were five boats in a final women's heat. Title: Re: Deep Cove Dash Post by: threesea on April 26, 2009, 08:10:53 PM Other than very minor oddities... Yes, a great day of paddling and racing. Congrats to the winners and to those who put their all into it.However, on the topic of oddities... Some time ago someone posted a note about festival etiquette and having witnessed a particular "oddities" at the dash, I think that note will need to be repeated. I understand that this little festival is billed as the "first of the season" and that teams will be looking to evaluate how they pare to their play mates etc., but I would expect that teams would respect the effort that the wonderful volunteers put into holding this festival and given the amount of cash teams are paying to participate in this effort, that teams are going to put their all into each and every race. There are teams that want to race you, and I think that they, at the very least, deserve your full effort! End of rant. Thanks all for a wonderful day and looking forward to further races. 3c Title: Re: Deep Cove Dash Post by: kryssee on April 26, 2009, 08:13:58 PM Yes! You Sundragons were GOOD! Kicked our butts in the Semi's! Or was it race 2?
I agree..the waiting was kinda crappy..not sure why they chose to run 5 boat heats with only 8 boats available. I'd like to add that maybe next year that there is an actual "dock master" type person. There were too many cooks in the kitchen down there! We'd get told to stand somewhere, and then get yelled at to move, and then have someone in the back telling us to go back so half our team was in a different spot. Another time we were told to load the boat, and when we did, some guy walks by and yells for us to stop and wait. It was pretty frustrating that way. On another note, I was pretty sad that only our team went to the dock to do the paddle honor guard for the BC survivor teams after the carnation ceremony...I was used to hundred..instead we had a dozen..felt really bad for the BC teams..they deserved more respect. I even asked some other teams if they were coming and they looked at me like I was speaking japanese or something. Teams that I have seen do it before. Let's remember that this IS a part of the carnation ceremony and do it EVERY time! Title: Deep Cove Dash Comments Post by: alcanranker on April 26, 2009, 10:02:49 PM Great kickoff to the Sprint series, looks like another exciting season ahead.
Some have asked why 5 boats finals instead of 3 or 4 boat finals. Simple answer, competition. Last year, Wateresedge heard there were teams that were looking for finals to be a bit more than just 3 boat finals, to do that Watersedge increased the number of boats in a final to 5. It definitely made the finals more exciting. The hold up was not in having 5 boats but the inability to change the boat numbers as they came, thus allowing the first two boats to head out once loaded. Yesterday, boats had to come in a specific order and that was a problem. Wateresedge has a few ideas on how to correct this and they will look at them. There was also an unplanned 30 minute break after the Breast Cancer Ceremony which left the afternoon starting 35 minutes later than it was suppose to. If you look at would have happened with 4 boat heats, it would have ended only 10 minutes early than it did because there would have been more races (less waiting though). In the end, it was 58 minutes behind schedule so the main delays were not the 5 boat heats (starting 35 minutes late for the afternoon races did not help) but I do hate waiting around to race also, so I feel for all the paddlers who had to wait. Maybe they will change it so only the finals will be 5 boats heats (semis will still be 3 to 4 boat heats), if the semis can be done in such a way that would allow this to occur it may speed the afternoon up a bit. In addition, if people only want 3 boats finals I am sure Watersedge can change it back, let Watersedge know if you like/dislike having more than 3 boat finals. These are your races. Hope to see you in Whistler. Title: Re: Deep Cove Dash Post by: LittleSchrodinger on April 26, 2009, 11:13:23 PM Well said, it's true that the the inability to change the boat numbers really slowed down the races once the five-boat heats started rolling, as they're just using the same #4 and #5 for for most of the finals. (The yellow Deep Cove BUKs.) It gave teams in number 1 through 3 quite a bit of time to warm up. For the semi-final, my team must've went through at least eight warm-up drills before we started lining up, and the scenery was just too distracting at that time. Maybe sticking with four-boats ala Harrison would have helped the races flow better
Race-grid wise, I think that WE did a good job in trying to keep the heats tight unlike certain festivals that gives top teams easy races (high time differential) for the first half. Most of the races were pretty close and some are quite fun to watch. Speaking of oddities, is it me or I find it weird that the final A heat was seeded so that the #2 ranked team would be put in lane 3 between 1st and 3rd? I guess I'm just used to seeing the first place seed in the middle of the lane assignments in cases of races with odd-numbered boats. See you as early as as FCRCC regatta. That said, I have the placings for the Womens A Final and consolation. For the rest of the results, we'll probably have to wait for WE to release them, or other forum members to post what they have. A Final 1. FCRCC Women 0.52.840 2. Dragon Ladies 0.58.620 3. Saggin Dragons 0.59.450 4. Water Warriors 1.00.730 5. Fort Langley Sun Dragons (??) A Consolation 1. FLCC Women on Water 2. Deep Cove Perfect Catch 3. The Seventh Wave 4. Team Momentum 5. Abreast with FORT-itude Here are some photos I took. There were some pretty good close races and a few steering corrections, but overall, it looked like a well run race. I have a few more to post later on once I download it to my computer. The race site isn't very good for photo opportunities unless you have Lethal Weapon's big lenses. You hear that Lethal? I want your lenses! I mean..we all raced on the same day, right? So, curious as to why the mixed results could find their way on here a day earlier. Anyhow, no offence to you (and thank you for putting them up) it's just that the women's races are always 2nd class next to mixed..first to be forgotten. After 5 seasons of it, it gets frustrating..we train just as hard, race just as hard, and look WAY prettier! Thanks for posting pictures..I never even saw a camera out there!

Krysee, you could have easily copied them down and be the first to post Women's results, especially if it bothered you all this much after 5 seasons you mentioned about. 5 season is a long time to not do anything about it yourself but to expect others to do it right away instead.
