Looks like people only sell used Axel or the old wooden paddles.
Title: Re: Hollyakala Kialoa Outrigger Paddle Post by: paddleboy on January 16, 2009, 10:14:33 AM The Hollyakala is a smaller blade used more by women as it also has a smaller shaft .The axel is a very popular all around blade used by many different paddlers and just a note...... some wood blades are alot better then the carbon counterparts . I have a axel but want a wood blade that is made in hawaii and very hard to find.......its probably the most sought after paddle by alot of hawaiian paddlers .......I believe its call a "Makana Alii" !! Never under estimate some wood blades just because they are wood ,some are in fact lighter than the carbons and deliver better performance
Title: Re: Hollyakala Kialoa Outrigger Paddle Post by: Openocean on September 17, 2009, 02:42:41 PM The Holly is marketed as a "women's paddle" as it was the only one not desinged by Dave Chun of Kialoa. Holly Rhodes was the designer.
the difference between the Holly and the Axel II is the Axel can be buried deeper on the catch,by putting more of the suface in. The Holly by compaision is not buied as deep and spreads the surface area arcoss a shorter, wider area. It make for a great all arounder, especially for smaller paddlers who don;t have a super deep catch. The Helium Hybrid is smaller than the Axel and makes for a better OC-1 paddle than the Holly in my opinion. all Kialoa paddles are avaialble in Vancouver at www.outrigger.ca |
