Title: Ice around the Alder Bay docks and Science World
Post by: PaddlesUp on December 16, 2008, 02:43:09 PM
Tuesday, 16 December 2008

The cold weather has created icy conditions that would make it unsafe to paddle and cause damage to the boats.  The cold front is forecast to last well into next week, with a large storm coming in by Saturday.  Thus, use of club boats at both Alder Bay and the Burrard compound is suspended until further notice.  Paddling in sub-zero conditions is an extreme safety concern (survival in cold water - http://www.shipwrite.bc.ca/Chilling_truth.htm (http://www.shipwrite.bc.ca/Chilling_truth.htm)).

As posted on the FCRCC Website.  Thought this should be posted for SAFETY REASONS and ALERT.

Ice around the Alder Bay docks and Science World
Monday, 26 January 2009
The sheets of ice that has been forming on the waters around the Alder Bay docks and Science World can severely damage the hulls of the boats.  Please be careful with the boats if you plan to paddle in the next couple of days as the cold temperature is forecasted to continue until mid-week.  Ideally, do not take the boats out if you see ice around the docks.  The weather should warm up by the end of the week.
