Post by: Monk on September 07, 2008, 07:59:02 PM
Just got back....WHAT A HOOT! Thanx to Starbucks, Sake et. al., and Waters Edge for an awesome event....

For anyone thinking of attending next year I, would suggest bringing lumber, duct tape, and any other arts and crafts supplies you may think of... The race format is in a word ... interesting.

I must sleep now. Many things sore.

PS -

apologies to Jackie for the goose...Seemed like a godd idea at the time

Agreed, great event!  Water's Edge, fantastic job and great ideas for the obstacle course!   :)

My only down point of the event was not actually the racing or Water's Edge, but what happened after all the medals were said and done.  A bunch of us were giving Kerry a friendly "throw" into the water and after some initial resistance, he accepted it went with it.  At some point after Kerry went into the water, I was blindsided by a guy in a red jersey who shoulder checked me into the water.  Now, I understand that I can I got to receive what i dish out, but this incident bothered me for a number of reasons.

1)  I was already changed out into my street clothing (dry wear).  Luckily I did not have any personal electronic items on me such as phone, wallet, etc, or else that would have been all ruined.
2)  The person that blinded sided me does not even know me.  Its cool b/w teammates b/c we know what to expect, but not from a stranger.
3)  Whoever did commit the act, did not bother to wait around to check if I was okay.  By the time I got out of the water (Thanks Kerry for giving me a hand into the Dragonboat, even after throwing you in), there wasn't anyone in sight other than Water's Edge staff and some teammates.

It was a bit of a downer to end such a great festival on that note but I want to throw it out there just to let whoever did it that it wasn't cool.  But anyhow, congrats to all the teams that took home hardware and hope to see you again next year!

Junoman, I'm so sorry you got tossed in after me...but if we do find the person who threw you in, I will ensure that I throw them in for you at the next race. I'm glad you had a great time, and we will see you at the next race...

yeah juno...  that sucks ass.  boo to the person that tackled you into the water.  fun is fun but blind siding someone from behind is bad.  plus there were dragonboats around someone could have gotten hurt.

puppy sorry i missed out on the fun.

Thanks to everyone involved with the race. Waters Edge did a great job. The huli drill appeared to go well. I would also like to thank all the teams that travelled to Seattle. It made the event exciting and gave us an opportunity to race others in our home waters. I think we definitely had some home field advantage because those water conditions are typical for us.

I truthfully hope the events goes on for many years. I also hope that Seattle Parks Department get their heads out of their you know whats and allow us to race at Greenlake. One, it is a nice setting, two, there are more stores, restaurants around, and three I can walk to the race.

Once again, thanks for the races (VO2, Blu, Elephant and Castle, Hot and Team Sake)

Andy
Laughing Buddha Beer (formerly Absolut Sake)

PS: Our jersey's are black so I claim innocence on any post race water events.

Great racing in Seattle! Very similar to Whistler and all the teams were so friendly! Loved the obstacle race. Next year, we could bring shovels, plywood, etc...but knowing the Water's Edge crew...it'll be completely different next year! I have never seen people eat bread that fast!

Thanks to Water's Edge for a great season! All your events are top notched and fun! The dedication, commitment, and personal sacrifices from each of your staff members is greatly appreciated by the dragonboat community! See you all next year!
