Title: Kelowna Line-up Post by: cookie on September 04, 2008, 03:26:16 PM Does anyone have the line-up of teams for Kelowna...Mixed and Womens?
Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: LittleSchrodinger on September 04, 2008, 04:53:03 PM Mmm. I don't know how many teams for sure, but Magnums will be there for certain. I'm sure that RGL United are going as well. Not sure about other teams.
Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: mustbecrazy on September 04, 2008, 09:17:39 PM Sudden Impact Black and Blue will be there!
Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: BernMan on September 05, 2008, 09:45:48 AM I believe Splash Test Dragons, Scotiabank, TCC Epson Dragoneers, and Phat Phish Racing will be there.
Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: Nestah14 on September 05, 2008, 09:48:46 AM Eye of the Dragon will be there.

Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: cookie on September 05, 2008, 10:54:24 AM But probably not wiser!
Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: NFW on September 09, 2008, 03:10:49 PM I believe NAVY will be there as well.
Care to make predictions anyone? Kelowna T-minus 3 days! :D Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: LittleSchrodinger on September 09, 2008, 08:50:12 PM Mmm. Hard to say, I'm predicting that Sudden Impact Black will take this festival easily, followed by the such of Navy, RGL United, Phat Phish, and Scotiabanks.
Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: paddlecwazy on September 10, 2008, 09:16:15 AM Kelowna is always the hardest festival to make predictions for... it's hard to know which teams are bringing their full compliment, which teams are their just to party, and which teams will pick up the most ringers...
I've heard many conflicting rumors as to how many and to which teams some of the FCRCC paddlers have pledged their allegiance for the weekend so it's hard to assess what if any impact this will have on the results. Sudden Impact Black & Navy appear to be the standouts from those mentioned above...assuming they both go to Kelowna, the first two crews at the recent Pentiction festival (O'kai I'Kika U'as & the Save On Foods Dragonslayers) should both be in the mix if they go. After that will be the usual motley crews, Scotiabank (with FCRCC paddlers), Dragonhearts Magnum, Phat Phish, Eye of the Dragon, RGL United & if the rumor of FCRCC ringers is true TCC. I haven't hard which if any of the prairie crews will be there, but I would not be surprised if some of them figured in the mix as well. Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: BernMan on September 10, 2008, 09:32:15 AM I too heard rumours that since FCRCC is not fielding a team then members of that team will compliment existing teams. I know that some will be true to their original rosters. It is only fair so that way the team can really be proud of their accomplishments throughout the season. Putting on ringers really isn't the true team now is it? Unless you already happen to be an elite team such as FCRCC then picking up a few paddlers probably wouldn't make the team any stronger. In fact it might just keep them where they are supposed to be in the first place. So picking up ringers for a team such as them is OK in my books.
Anyway mixed teams that I am aware of are as follows: Pupply Love Dragons (no idea where they are from! Probably a mishmash of crews combined. :?) Fluid Motion EOTD RGL United Phat Phish Dragon Hearts Magnum Synergy Legacy Scotia Dragons SI Black Calgary DB Club Crew Yahoo Navy Dragon Anchors Guardian Dragons Red Fushion Extreme Currents Ready, Jet, Go! Team Lifescan Inbalance Powered by Blenz Coffee Team Ruckus JDA Uhuru Alley Katz TD Lightning Shaggin Dragons Reloaded That is just to name a few. There will be 58 mixed teams I believe. Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: paddlecwazy on September 10, 2008, 10:04:47 AM It personally doesn't bother me if a team picks up "ringers" for a festival... If it means the team in question would not have had enough paddlers to field a team then I'd rather have the chance to race against them with their ringers than not race against them at all.. the more teams at a regatta the better as far as I'm concerned..
Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: paddleboy on September 10, 2008, 03:40:22 PM WHAT ????????...............FCRCC has RINGER's ? Holy Crap !
Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: LittleSchrodinger on September 10, 2008, 03:41:16 PM <_< I thought it's the other way around.

Lot's of people need to know how late they can party Friday night.... Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: nakedpaddler on September 11, 2008, 10:08:16 AM Has anyone sighted a race grid yet? It was out on the Tuesday before the races last year. Yah, isn't it nuts this year with all grids? I have been waiting "patiently" I might add for a couple of days.............travel plans and party plans have to be made - gosh don't they understand? Anxious Anxious...........Lot's of people need to know how late they can party Friday night.... Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: BernMan on September 11, 2008, 10:20:33 AM I will tell you this... the first mixed heat is tentatively scheduled to go on at 9:54am if things with the grid stay as they are. Of course it could be a few mins before if things run ahead of schedule or it could be a few mins after that if things start off with a hiccup. Will this help anyone? The last of the first round of mixed heats is tentatively scheduled for 12:06pm. There will be 12 rounds of mixed heats in round 1.
Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: cookie on September 11, 2008, 10:32:53 AM Hey Bernman,
You're a man with all the answers, (I'm not being facetious) so can you tell us why it's taking so long for the race grid to be out? :? Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: nakedpaddler on September 11, 2008, 11:11:25 AM I will tell you this... the first mixed heat is tentatively scheduled to go on at 9:54am if things with the grid stay as they are. It will help if you just put us in the last heat of the morning!!! how about that....... :) We usually have a "reputation" of being a bit hard on our livers the night before (both Fri & Sat) so, hoping to get in the last race of the morning........need to "replenish" and "refresh" LOL.Thanks Bernie, I am sure that you will have it sorted by mid-day ~ Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: nakedpaddler on September 11, 2008, 11:15:25 AM Hey Bernman, Would not have anything to do with the organizers (workers) being placed in heats to cover the organizing of everything would it.......and that last minute entry ~ PUPPY LOVE? We are going to be DOG catchers this weekend...........round you up and put you in a Kennel! You're a man with all the answers, (I'm not being facetious) so can you tell us why it's taking so long for the race grid to be out? :? Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: BernMan on September 11, 2008, 11:54:46 AM Hey Nakedpaddler. Which team are you with? Not that I can accomodate your request about your team being in the last heat in the first mixed round. But maybe the gurus who put the race grid together might read this and try to help out. NOT LIKELY! But hey you never know! LOL I am just teasing here as I doubt changes are going to be made to the grid. I just heard that the final grid was put out and I will try to figure out how to post a PDF doc on here. Anyone know how?

Anything on Saturday? Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: paddlecwazy on September 11, 2008, 01:18:16 PM Thanks for the grid....
So, correct me if I'm wrong, we all get one race in BUK's and one in 6/16's and advancement is then based on cumulative time ... Last question.... Does anybody know who these Puppy Love people are??? Title: Re: Entertainment at Kelowna Festival Post by: BernMan on September 11, 2008, 01:32:04 PM Wasn't the admission included for paddlers? I thought it was in the past?
Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: BernMan on September 11, 2008, 01:35:17 PM Thanks for the grid.... Be very aware of the Puppy Love crew. I heard it from one of the crew member's mouth last night they are going to be a team to contend with. Right Ben? Lets see what happens in their first race and decide for yourselves. Will Barney be there? What about those two god awful Fraser Valley boats? Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: NFW on September 11, 2008, 04:12:12 PM Looking from the race grid, there's plenty of tough competitions out there, it should be exciting!
Puppy love dragons = FCRCC? + outrigger guys? + ?? (Since they are seeded to win the first round, they could be a dark horse) Does the team name have anything to do with Kerry? Is Kerry paddling/steering for them? Is Kerry their mascot? lol Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: alcanranker on September 11, 2008, 04:22:40 PM The 6/16s are two from DZ and three from Kelowna. Barney will not make an appearance (from what they have told me).
Puppy Love is a mixture of Swordfish, E&C and others (including Puppy from what I heard). Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: LittleSchrodinger on September 11, 2008, 05:09:57 PM Basically, now we have a team devoted entirely to dunking puppy?
Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: NFW on September 11, 2008, 05:43:39 PM So the expected scenario would be this then:
Lose, dunk puppy...win, dunk puppy.. Either way, show the puppy some love, give it a much needed shower! Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: IronGiant on September 11, 2008, 08:00:38 PM Is the grid light about 20 mixed teams over last year? More beer for us.
Will Maha Wahine be reprising their boat-beaching skills? Title: Re: Entertainment at Kelowna Festival Post by: Cat on September 11, 2008, 10:55:11 PM it was $10 last year also - there was also people scalping (?) crazy idea :shock:and not necessary
Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: stella wahine on September 12, 2008, 07:10:11 AM if given the opportunity we would LOVE to beach a boat again.....so much fun!
but we are hoping mother nature will cooperate this year and we won't need to run those beautiful BUK's off the lake in favor of the hulking 6/16's... fingers crossed and paddles up! see you all in kelowna tonight Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: DBWTim on September 13, 2008, 12:04:50 PM Here's an update on how Kelowna has been going
1st round summary of Kelowna. Womens Division Fastest BuK - Fire On Water (2:18.80) Fastest 6-16 - Mana Wahine (2:20.15) Mixed Division Fastest BuK - Navy Dragon Anchors (2:04.35) Fastest 6-16 - Calgary Dragon Boat Club Crew Yahoo (2:07.19) 2nd round summary Womens Division Fastest BuK - Mana Wahine (2:17.03) Fastest 6-16 - Fire On Water (2:17.31) Mixed Division Fastest BuK - RGL United (2:08.71), very questionable... Fastest 6-16 - Navy Dragon Anchors (2:05.10) Mother Natuire has been kind to us and gave us great weather. Was pretty cold in the morning but warmed up in the afternoon. There was some tailwind in the late morning but the winds died down in the afternoon. Races have been moving pretty smoothly with very little incidents. There were a couple boats that lost control. Shagging Dragons Reloaded had the worst one of the day. Also, thoughts go out to the steerswoman that had that accident with the steering oar. I heard that she was a trooper in light of the situation. Hope she gets well soon and will return to the sport once she's fully healed. Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: DBWTim on September 14, 2008, 04:03:05 PM Unofficial Results
Womens Division 1st - Fire On Water 2nd - Extreme Curves 3rd - Mana Wahine Mixed Division 1st - Navy Dragon Anchors 2nd - Sudden Impact Black 3rd - RGL United Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: LittleSchrodinger on September 14, 2008, 11:51:34 PM What, no love for the fourth and fifth places? :(
It was a great festival overall, great weather, great scenery, great racing in most of the controllable factors, and great team atmosphere all around! Congratulation to Navy for taking home the gold medal! That was a well-deserved one for you guys the whole weekend. Sudden Impact Black, thanks for the tight races, and that was a great finish you guys pulled off in semi-final. Congratulation on the silver. RGL United, congratulation on the bronze and Calgary Yahoo Crew, thanks for the gutsy final! It had been a pleasure racing you guys in the final, and hopefully we'll meet in the final again in foreseeable future. ;) Finally, of course, I'm pretty proud of my team for coming this far into Platinum A and over despite being just about the tiniest team throughout the season. :D Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: NFW on September 16, 2008, 11:26:21 AM Tiny? We're MAGNUM! hahaha
Thanks to all the teams for the great racing and congrats to all the winners! I cant wait until the season starts again in Jan/Feb! :D Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: NoTouchingSasha on September 16, 2008, 11:34:09 AM Agreed with the above two posters. Kelowna was a nice wrap-up for most teams, with some excellent and VERY CLOSE championship races! I'm very proud of my own team, and I'm proud of myself too, for how much we've all improved over the season since late January. Let's strive to be even better. I know all the teams we've raced will do the same.
Thanks for a great dragon boating season, everyone! *off-season mode* Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: cjl8651 on September 16, 2008, 11:13:33 PM Thanks to all the teams out there for making this season a lot of fun.
Title: Re: Kelowna Line-up Post by: mustbecrazy on September 17, 2008, 02:17:53 PM Any video on the Platinum A final out there? It seems that there were many close final races this weekend! Thanks to all in that Platinum A final! What a rush to paddle against such tough competitors!
