2007 Review of the RE/MAX VI Dragon Boat Championships/ Gorge Fun Fest (from the GO eNewsletter)
The 2007 Re/Max Vancouver Island Dragon Boat Championships are in the bag, and it was the most successful event yet. At 55 teams, the field was the largest ever hosted at Victoria’s Gorge Rowing and Paddling Centre. Among the many highlights were the first-ever women’s division, the best finish ever for the local GRPC Junior team, the Island Breaststrokers retaining their Survivor Challenge title, the Scurvy Dawgs taking home the ‘Just Give’Er’ Spirit Award for the second year running and having the top three boats in the grand final finish nose-to-nose for what was the most thrilling race of the day (which is saying something, because all the racing was really exciting). The GO Race Management Team ran a seamless event. From the great venue to the efficient race turnarounds, the huge number of volunteers helping out and the general good will from all participants, the 2007 Vancouver Island Dragon boat Championships were a huge success.
