Title: Peeling skin under hands Post by: p0et on June 05, 2008, 03:20:40 PM After our first dragon boat competition a couple weekends ago, I noticed that my right hand started peeling (underside of the hand, on the palm). I started putting vasaline lotion on it but it wouldn't help. Over the past couple weeks, it just keeps getting worse. Now I have various fingers peeling and my left hand is also peeling now. I wore MEC gloves while paddling.
Any suggestions for what can actually resolve the peeling skin? Thanks! Title: Re: Peeling skin under hands Post by: BernMan on June 05, 2008, 03:55:16 PM Its the damn False Creek water man! Stay the hell out of there now. NOW! Do it before its too late and you lose all your fingers man! There are more important things to life than dragon boat racing! Trust me!
It would suck to lose your fingers :? and skin  because of the crappy water but hey stranger things have happened ya know? :o :) Just rinse off with fresh water every time you get off the creek just to be sure. My 2 bits worth! Title: Re: Peeling skin under hands Post by: CCR-MGR on June 05, 2008, 04:12:38 PM I have to agree with Bernman here....Where do you think the "flesh eating disease" originated from.
Have you dermatologist check it out asap. They may have to amputate your hand. Title: Re: Peeling skin under hands Post by: haywitch on June 05, 2008, 04:23:58 PM Hey, the Inner Harbour water's not that bad, got to wonder what else you were doing with those gloves
Title: Re: Peeling skin under hands Post by: Special K on June 06, 2008, 08:33:35 AM I would see a dermatologist who can provide a good hand cream to combat the possible excema you have developed. I too get the 'peeling skin' and use a cream called Dermalac that contains lactic acid (as recommended by my dermatologist). They are much better now. You have to ask a pharmacist for it (no prescription required).
I would try not paddling with gloves (I no longer wear them) as this just assists in keeping your hands moist throughout practice which does not help your condition. If you wear them for gripping your paddle try wax or hockey tape instead. Yes, chalk it up to dirty False Creek water and all that bacteria :x Title: Re: Peeling skin under hands Post by: selltile on June 06, 2008, 10:57:44 AM probably an alergy to something in the gloves.. Take them off and try a little vit. E on the peeling
