Title: Looking to join a team... Post by: tamdys on June 04, 2008, 09:16:01 PM Hi there,
I am an avid water girl (kayaking, rowing, swimming) but have never tried a paddle/oar/blade in a dragon boat. I would love to join... but have not a clue as to where to start. I am 33 years old, athletic, female, work full time and lesbian (for whatever THAT is worth based on some of the other posts :-). Any suggestions on where to head would be much appreciated! Thanks!, Tammy Title: Re: Looking to join a team... Post by: mandachan on June 05, 2008, 03:29:38 AM Sisters in Sync I believe is looking for paddlers, and they're Vancouver's first and only lesbian team. Try it out! Very fun team, I almost joined it myself had it not been for my crazy work/school schedule.
They practice Thursday nights and Sunday mornings, but please double check to see if they're still recruiting, I don't want to advertise for them if they didn't want me to! Great group to work with though, let me know if you're interested and I'll ask the captain for you. Title: Re: Looking to join a team... Gung Haggis Fat Choy dragon boat team emphasizes cultural inclusivity... which could include ethnic or sexual orientation... because culture is a social construct. We have put dragon boats, Chinese Lion masks, and a Chinese parade dragon in Vancouver's St. Patrick's Day Parade. Some of our male paddlers wear kilts while paddling, or in the beer garden - because they understand it's the women who wear the pants (or mini-kilts) on this team! We have been featured in TV documentaries in Europe on German Public television, and globally on French public television, as well as nationally on CBC Newsworld. We have raced in Portland OR, Seattle WA, Victoria BC, Kelowna BC, Harrison BC, and Cultus Lake. Our next races will be in Vernon BC, and the Vancouver Taiwanese DB Race. We are still deciding about Victoria or Kent WA for this year.... Oh... and we have also managed to win medals too. Vancouver, Portland, Victoria and Vernon... Our practice times are: Sunday 1:30 Tuesday 6pm Check out our website team page: http://www.gunghaggis.com/blog/_archives/2008/3/28/3608470.html (http://www.gunghaggis.com/blog/_archives/2008/3/28/3608470.html) Title: Re: Looking to join a team...
