Re: Invitation to the Penticton Dragon Boat Festival – September 6 & 7, 2008

You are invited to the 8th Annual Raymond James Penticton Dragon Boat Festival on September 6 & 7, 2008! The event is now two days and will be hosted on Skaha Lake at the Penticton Paddling Centre. The event will feature Race Management by GO and Millennium Dragon Boats! For registration and information, visit www.pentictondragonboat.com  (http://www.pentictondragonboat.com) or phone 1-866-658-6333 or email [email protected] (http://[email protected]). We hope to see you there!

2007 Review of the Penticton Dragon Boat Festival
The Seventh Annual Raymond James Penticton Dragon Boat Festival had the usual weather this year. Strong winds (not forecast by Environment Canada) made for some very exciting 6 boat finals on Okanagan Lake. Leading up to the event, the motto was “Embrace the Wind," and embrace the wind we did! The talk in the beer garden was of the exciting conditions and the heroics of the crews, steerspeople, and race managers, and how well the Millennium Dragon Boats handled the “extreme” conditions! We had our biggest field yet, with 32 teams participating. The Women's A division final saw strong Penticton crews - Ya-Ya  Sisters, Penticton Dragon Bottoms and Despirit Housewives -  in the  top 3 places. The Mixed A division saw previous year's winners Dr’Agonize and Okai'Ikika'U'as edged out by Nanaimo's Save on Foods Dragonslayers.

The winds this race typically has are the most extreme I've ever raced in.

Steerspeople, wear shin guards!

Fun day though...

It should be much calmer this year as it is on Skaha and not on Okanagan.  The last two years, when Okanagan has been blowing Skaha has been sheltered and calm.

We will see you all up there this year, can't wait!!

Title: GREAT JOB PENTICTON
Post by: A-T-Nay on September 09, 2008, 07:08:07 PM
As we noticed that this was the first year of Penticton running a two day event.and
having been to Kelowna many many years, we decided to try this event out,and support
new venues. Im happy to report that everything about this event,( from race course,
management. beer gardens etc  was  done in a fantastic manner. The weather was
great and there wasnt any windy conditions to worry about on Skaha Lake. If this event is not on your teams radar it should be. GREAT JOB PENTICTON.

Penticton Dragonboat Festival on Skaha Lake was a great success this year. The paddlers village and beer garden set up was right off the beach. Paddlers village was all on grass and very clean. Great music played all day. The volunteers were great and worked very hard. Loading of boats was off the beach. Races were run on time or abit ahead of time. Our team has already decided to include this event in our schedule for next year. The only "very small" drawback was the race viewing in which we are being spoilt by events such as Victoria and Harrison for watching races. It was not that bad though and the audio made up for it. Congrats to the organizers.

the new venue at skaha and having the festival over two days was fantastic. i really liked how well it was organized, the boats (millenniums), great racing, the intimate breast cancer carnation ceremony, and most of all the paddlers' spirit! the local micro-brewery beer in the beer garden was tasty too! next year just needs more teams - i'm sure that will come given how awesome it was this year! this one is my calendar for 2009!
