Title: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: dogpaddle on March 22, 2008, 09:28:33 AM Today is the start of the Arizona paddling clinic! It looks like we are going to get some gorgeous weather this week! From what I see, there is representation from the Calgary Race Club, Mana Wahines, Navy Dragon Anchors, Bastion Dragons, Wasabi, and Blu By U. Looking forward to meeting all the participants and coaching staff tonight. Until then, we might catch a ball game or do some outlet shopping! :D
Looking forward to getting out on the water in the warm weather! 8)) Title: Re: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: James Cole on March 23, 2008, 08:59:00 PM Sun... coaching... drills... rudderless V1s... hot temps... cheap mexican beer...
Life doesn't suck. Title: Re: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: dogpaddle on March 24, 2008, 09:26:19 PM Another great clinic by Water's Edge again! Great to see all the familiar faces and new ones, too! There are two crews here from Edmonton. Lots of paddling and lots of personal instruction by great coaches. We were video taped today and will review tomorrow (UGH!). The weather has been fabulous! Sounds like there will be a number of crews coming in for the festival, too. I only hope that I have enough energy left to paddle!!
Title: Re: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: magicpaddler on March 27, 2008, 07:35:23 AM As mentioned above the weather here has been awesome. There are some definite sunburns being developed.
The most notable is PUPPY's He got soooo burnt that he is now wearing a full jacket with hood when ever he is in the sun. We have changed his nickname from Puppy to La Chien Rouge. Looking forward to the festival this weekend. Title: Re: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: Aquaman on March 27, 2008, 05:50:39 PM What a great week so far!
Some great coaching and lots of fun. Can't wait for the festival this weekend! Title: Re: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: dogpaddle on March 29, 2008, 10:18:07 PM Nice racing by the CRC crew today! The fastest times of the day! They kicked our butt!
By the way...I keep forgetting to ask. Where's the beer bong? Title: Re: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: magicpaddler on March 30, 2008, 05:07:33 PM They wouldn't let us accross the border with it.
Great racing by the Waters Edge teams. Waters Edge RattleSnakes (Blu By U and friends) took Bronze in the B division I really think they got 2nd. Waters Edge Scorpions (CRC and friends) took Bronze in A division. I really think we got 2nd as well. Lost to LARD and San Diego. Not bad for teams that were put together after the Waters Edge camp. And some of us havn't seen the water since Oct and won't again until May. Gotta Love it. Title: Re: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: Monk on March 30, 2008, 07:59:56 PM So when are we gonna see the photos of Jeffs hairy & bruised buttocks? Can't believe he did that * hee hee *
GOOD TIMES! Title: Re: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: Monk on March 30, 2008, 08:43:41 PM (http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff7/jamfudge/IMG_1020.jpg)
The scruffy Canadians! Title: Re: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: puppy on March 31, 2008, 01:29:59 PM Congratulations to the two Canadian Teams that came together and raced as one! It's was an amazing moment, when other teams would ask who we were. We just told them that most of these paddlers have not been on the water until last week and that we are from all different parts of Canada. In addition, what really confused everyone was that they couldn't believe that we only practiced together for only 5 days.
See you all again next year in Hot Arizona.... Title: Re: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: selltile on March 31, 2008, 09:25:19 PM great coaches and great fun. I think we won silvers as well. Jump on this bandwagon and go to the clinic next year.

We all loved having you on the boat...even though we had to wear sunglasses to reflect the sunburn!
Sorry, we missed you in the group picture. Title: Re: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: James Cole on March 31, 2008, 10:42:35 PM (http://bp2.blogger.com/_FvbMQgC_p0E/R_HFl9GgV4I/AAAAAAAAAWI/Nlzpdm4lCDI/s400/IMG_1901.jpg)
Title: Re: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: jeannie on April 01, 2008, 12:34:29 PM good racing guys :)
Yeah, the last few heats were pretty rough on everyone. Your current made it's way into our lane......in the end I think it makes everyone anxious for the next match huh? ;) Hope the magicpaddler clip makes it to the final AZ recap! see you guys again soon. Title: Re: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: puppy on April 02, 2008, 08:04:38 AM Just a friendly reminder:
THE SUN IS BBBAAAADDDDD FOR YOU....... Title: Re: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: magicpaddler on April 02, 2008, 08:08:31 AM Why do you say that La Chien Rouge
Title: Re: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: magicpaddler on April 02, 2008, 01:16:59 PM Apparently my French isn't that good.
It should be Le Chien Rouge, not La Chien Rouge. Never did understand that very well. Title: Re: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: jeannie on April 02, 2008, 01:37:10 PM but La Chien Rouge makes it even funnier.....
as for Chienny, sun isn't bad for you, it's just bad when your epidermis has sloughed off. That's all. :) Title: Re: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: puppy on April 03, 2008, 08:19:47 AM To explain why the sun is bad for you...if you look at the picture above, you will notice that there is no cloud to block the UV rays from hitting us. In addition, the sun can tear not only the first layer of skin from you, but it can make your skin look like a snakes.
And finally, by the end of the second day in AZ, the colour of my skin looked like the colour of my red jacket - which i had to wear for the rest of the week............. :( Title: Arizona Race Results Post by: magicpaddler on April 03, 2008, 12:24:34 PM http://www.azdba.com/Festival/Tempe_2008_Results.xls
Title: Re: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: James Cole on April 04, 2008, 08:32:46 AM Races...
The good: Sun, nice boats, reasonably matched competition. The bad: Timing (honestly I don't believe any of the times recorded at this point), the announcer, not enough boats, no beer garden. Title: Re: Arizona Paddling Clinic Post by: selltile on April 04, 2008, 12:27:38 PM The announcer was brutal and no one was really certain about either the start or finish line in the races. Still a kick to put together a team one day and get a bronze for both teams. (though I think at least one should have been a silver --oh where was that finish line)

BAD was selling these licence plate covers in Arizona. I have some teammates that are interested in getting their hands on one. Can someone PM me and let me know if you have any more? Thanks! p.s. Thanks for modelling FB! |
