Title: Great sale on GARMIN FORERUNNER 305 GPS @ TSCC + Mail in rebate from Garmin Post by: rightarm on July 18, 2007, 07:57:20 AM Not really a classifieds ad, but The Source by Circuit City is selling the GARMIN FORERUNNER 305 GPS for $199 + tax and shipping today, which is about 100-200 bucks cheaper on average than most other places. Total with shipping is ~$231.
http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/Product.aspx?language=en-CA&catalog=Online&product=1917038 Not sure how long this deal is good for. UPDATE: DEAL JUST GOT BETTER!!!! There appears to be a rebate in place if you sign up for the "Powerbar" newsletter, you can get a rebate of $50 USD!!! I just signed up and got the rebate form. When I signed up for the newsletter, it wasn't very intuitive and had to use a fake US zipcode because it dosen't accept letters for canadian postal codes, but according to Garmin, the rebate offer is good for both US and Canadian citizens. Link: http://www8.garmin.com/whatsNew/currentpromotions/ (http://www8.garmin.com/whatsNew/currentpromotions/) Of course if you miss out on this deal, I'll have a used 201 for sale in about a week ;) PM me if interested Title: Re: Good deal on GARMIN FORERUNNER 305 GPS @ TSCC Post by: Special K on July 18, 2007, 08:47:19 AM Actually MEC sells the same model for $395, this is a great deal.
Thanks for the heads up. K. Title: Re: Good deal on GARMIN FORERUNNER 305 GPS @ TSCC Post by: chopsticks on July 18, 2007, 11:43:47 AM Thanks for posting. I just ordered one and the total (including standard s/h) is $231.63.
It says 5 days, but I think it will arrive earlier. At the Running Room, the lower model of Forerunner 205 (without the heartrate monitor) already costs $249.99 before taxes. Update: Yep, the "add to cart" button is there now. Man I'm a sucker for deals and this seems like a really good one. I think it might be out of stock already. You can try checking back later today or tomorrow (they might update their system to show more in stock). You might want to try calling them... That's a great deal for a compact GPS, even better with HR. I'll read the manual when I get it, but does anyone know if the data is download-able? Title: Re: Great sale on GARMIN FORERUNNER 305 GPS @ TSCC + Mail in rebate from Garmin Post by: LARDCore on July 19, 2007, 06:55:19 AM i have a forerunner 305 and it is invaluable.
i use it for dragon boat coaching, oc1 paddling, cycling and running. it's not so good for triathlons as it is not truly water proof. as for the HR readings - it's ok. some people say that the watch is a bit fussy picking up in HR at times but i have no problems. my only gripe is that the HR functions are not as robust as the top of the line polar products (but then again, polar doesn't have gps). now, if they can only make just a tad smaller.... Since when is c-ockpit a bad word? [/quote] what i do is i have a velcro strap that goes around my lower quad. i then attach the forerunner the to strap. that's the easiest way. what kind of huki do you have? I just got a v1x 2 weeks ago! Title: Re: Great sale on GARMIN FORERUNNER 305 GPS @ TSCC + Mail in rebate from Garmin Post by: Special K on July 25, 2007, 05:09:11 PM Thanks for the tips. I'm going to go with the duct tape as I've strapped it on my leg before but find having to look down bothersome, especially during a race. I'd rather be able to view it straight ahead.
My fiance and I both have V1-X's, bought them a year ago and love 'em. Mines bright yellow with orange and black graphics, his is the same but in blue and yellow, not hard to miss! We also have a Huki tandem, bright blue with yellow stripes. Look at what you can afford when you don't have kids! We used to have a Hurricane but I wouldn't trade my Huki for any other, durable, light and very well made. Now only if it could make me a faster paddler. Love it in the chop and waves. Cheers Special K Title: Re: Great sale on GARMIN FORERUNNER 305 GPS @ TSCC + Mail in rebate from Garmin Post by: chopsticks on July 26, 2007, 11:11:00 PM does any of you that have gotten the Garmin have rebate problems? the form is asking for a 9 digit serial number and the back of my GPS only shows 8.
I noticed on mine, the top scroll button on the right hand side needs to be pressed VERY hard to get it moving... does any of you have problems? Does anyone with a Garmin Forerunner 305 have the same problem that I do?... I notice that when my Timer is on, my pace is at 0 (I am NOT moving) but my Distance still continues counting and increasing in distance. If I am not moving, shouldn't my Distance recorder stop and stay still where it is at (ie. if I was walking or paddling a 500m practice and I come to a complete dead stop at 200m, should it still continue to measure distance or stay still at 200m until I start moving again to continue the recording of Distance?) The one I got will continue to keep going even if I am not moving anymore as long as the Timer is on. But if I STOP the Timer, then the Distance will not move anymore. Is there something wrong with my GPS - I am not familiar with GPS systems. If you plan on only using it for paddling, you'll *Probably* have no need for the HRM, so just get the cheaper 205 (just my opinion, i don't use the HRM for paddling) A quick comparison of this unit versus my old 201 unit Pros - fully programmable workouts on your computer, trasnferred to your GPS via USB connection (saves TONS of time and is 100% more functional) - you can carry a list of "generic workouts", and you can also program them according to a calendar - USB connection (vs old serial connection on x01 series, which was useless on modern computers) - ability to download data and results from gps, tracking progress (same as before, but made easier due to above mentioned item) - smaller "footprint" - wireless HRM (the runner in me loves this) Cons - while smaller "footprint", the GPS Antenna is wrapped around your wrist, with the bulk of it proximal to your body. not a big deal, but it does tend to angle the LCD slightly such that you have to rotate your wrist towards your face in order to read it. a minor annoyance really. - startup satellite acquisition time seems slower than on the x01 series. once acquired its smooth sailing, but it takes much longer than i'd expect sometimes (3-4 minutes vs. 1-2 minutes on the x01 series). Again this is at startup only so its a minor detail as often you'd use this time to warm-up and/or stretch, but it does mean you can't simply "startup-and-go". I'm not certain if that is a byproduct of the antenna design or perhaps the firmware of the unit. Both of those cons are really minor, but the pros are HUGE improvements over my previous unit. Was definitely worth the purchase. On a side note, the customizable target zones are awesome... but ruthless! you go too fast or slow and this thing just screams at you! My pacing has gotten much more consistent since i got this thing.
