Title: Police and Fireman Games 2009 Post by: DiggerPig on May 14, 2007, 10:09:45 PM Hello Everyone,
When I was in Australia, as part of the team that competed in the Australian Nationals, I meet up with a fellow law enforcement paddler that wanted to compete in the 2009 World Police and Fireman Games in Vancouver. Apparently DB was part of the last World Police and Fireman Games. I've searched the internet and talked to a few people but I can't find any information about Dragon Boat racing being apart of this event. Has anyone heard anything? Title: Re: 2009 World Police and Fireman Games - Vancouver Post by: PhilR on May 17, 2007, 12:07:27 AM Hello mate, I competed in the Dragon boat racing at the World Police and Firemans games.
had a great time, a lot more relaxed than world titles and if teams were short we could use other registered competitors as long as they were registered on your team sheets. regards Phil Title: Re: 2009 World Police and Fireman Games - Vancouver Post by: Magnum on May 17, 2007, 04:56:42 PM Here's the link for the 2009 games. Dragon boating is not one of the 67 listed sports but it is listed in the expression of interest form.

On July 31 - August 9, 2009 The World Police and Fireman Games will be held in Vancouver [www.2009wpfg.ca]. They will have Dragon Boating as one of there events. I will be paddling! If anyone is interested in joining me - I could use another ... 16-18 paddlers. The Sudden Impact Dragon Boat team that Paddles at Cultus Lake already has 3 members as part of their competitive crew that are employed in law enforcement and are interested in entering a team ... I would like to put a very competitive team together. I am willing to drive into Vancouver once a week if the bulk of the paddlers are from that area. If your interested in forming a team please PM me. Diggerpig Title: Re: Police and Fireman Games 2009 Post by: Colossus on February 26, 2008, 08:26:34 PM You've got mail.
Title: Re: Police and Fireman Games 2009 Post by: DiggerPig on February 26, 2008, 08:44:16 PM The very fact that Colossus is considering in paddling is very cool. We might be able to enter a men's, women, and mixed team [going to find out the format and what we can enter]. You will need to tell me if your male or female as well.

I thought they were using Burnaby venues - any chance that Burnaby lake is being dredged for the event ? That would be great to finally have a neutral race course. Title: Re: Police and Fireman Games 2009 Post by: Colossus on March 16, 2008, 05:00:30 PM According to the website, they're being held in the creek. I wonder what kind of boats will be used?
Title: Re: Police and Fireman Games 2009 Post by: Colossus on March 18, 2008, 11:22:29 PM Make that a total of three so far.
Title: Re: Police and Fireman Games 2009 Post by: DiggerPig on March 21, 2008, 08:58:22 PM Actually make that a total of 7 so far ... Sudden Impact Black has four paddlers that are in either law enforcement or fire fighters.
So far we have 7 people So with at least a year away we're doing o.k. but if we could get a team ready this year ... we could start practicing a few times a month and then when next year roles around ... I seriously think we could win this ... I think it would be very cool participating the WORLD Police and Fireman Games and even better winning the event in dragonboating. I'll keep everyone informed ... I would like to get a team together ASAP so we can register it. Title: Re: Police and Fireman Games 2009 Post by: Colossus on March 22, 2008, 11:00:06 AM Sorry, thats three people coming from me.
Title: Re: Police and Fireman Games 2009 Post by: DiggerPig on March 24, 2008, 01:39:15 PM Hello Everyone,
I've just read through a few PMs and they all have the same question. When do I need to know, how many practices, etc ... As soon as we can get a team together we can register it for the 2009 World Police and Fireman Games. I do not know or have not heard of a cutoff date but I will try to keep as updated as possible. As soon as we get 20 people we will schedule a meeting to make introductions, fill-out paper work, and other admin stuff. As it stands right now we have experienced paddlers (new or experience paddlers are wanted) we could meet once a month for this season. I know that Colussus paddles with FCRCC and SI Black practice 3 times a week so I think we'll be in pretty good shape and I don't see us needing to practice more than once a month or every two months for this year. Next year we could stick with a once a month practice and one/two weeks before the games (July?) we could increase our practices to twice a month. Again we will be combining team members from existing teams in the area so this won't be a huge commitment but could be very rewarding. Right now we sit at 8 interested members. We still need both Men and Women and they can be experienced or new paddlers. Thanks Title: Re: Police and Fireman Games 2009 Post by: Colossus on March 24, 2008, 02:07:38 PM .

I spoke with Jackie this weekend and it appears that Waters Edge will be running the Dragon Boat racing for the World Police and Fireman Games. I will have to speak with Jackie some more but I might have been asked to liaison with someone about that ... hmmm Either way there has to be 20 male/female paddlers out there that want to win gold at these games that will be held in Vancouver? If interested please pm me. Title: Re: Police and Fireman Games 2009 Post by: DiggerPig on July 31, 2008, 10:11:34 PM I just checked out the offical site www.2009wpfg.ca
