Title: Baby Dragon Boat Post by: Ayla_Paddles on November 27, 2006, 11:41:05 PM Hi All,
Does anyone know where I could purchase a baby Dragon Boat? We would prefer a 6-16 or Millennium Baby Dragon Boat. Thanks Ayla from Portland Title: Re: Baby Dragon Boat Post by: Colossus on November 28, 2006, 12:45:55 AM "baby" dragonboat? you mean one of those 10-seaters?

For the 6-16's, try contacting Vincent Lo thru the 6-16 website: www.616.ca For the Millenniums, you can contact Go Rowing and Paddling Association of Canada. Contact info on the website: http://www.gorowandpaddle.org/ I don't know if they make a 10 seater version of the Millenniums (not to say that they don't). I've never seen one. I have seen a 6-16 version of the 10 seater years back. Hopefully you'll be able to get your hands on 1, or 6, create a new regatta based on the 10 seater DB's, and you can invite the whole lot of us over to race them! I'd come down for that! :) Title: Re: Baby Dragon Boat Post by: Ayla_Paddles on November 30, 2006, 06:40:47 PM Thanks!
Now that sounds like a great idea for a venue!!! If that is what it takes to get you to come on down to Portland for some hot racing, then perhaps I better request a higher budget to purchase 6-10 baby dragon boats!!! We are planning a really good race for September 8-9, 2007. I hope you come on down! Ayla Title: Re: Baby Dragon Boat Post by: Ayla_Paddles on November 30, 2006, 08:07:07 PM Oh My goodness... My husband just came up with a great name for the new festival...
Tha Half Pint Regatta.... Half Size Dragon Boats, Half Pint Beers, Half the Price but Twice the Fun... Ayla Title: Re: Baby Dragon Boat Post by: Dr. Evil on November 30, 2006, 10:21:10 PM Tha Half Pint Regatta.... Out of curiousity, are you looking for the baby DB's strictly for training purposes (i.e. instead of doing small boat work in OC's, canoes or kayaks) , or are you having issues with a full boat showing up for practice :), or are you looking at starting (or creating a new division in an existing regatta) with the 1/2 sized DB's? I'm not aware of any festivals in North America that offer racing in the 10 seater DB's. I know in Europe and Asia they do. Thot you might enjoy some video of some races in the 10 seaters.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dh_oNCR_KBI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUQdVumWH5Y Title: Re: Baby Dragon Boat Post by: Ayla_Paddles on December 01, 2006, 01:16:57 PM Thank You So MUCH!
It was great to watch the video's. The commentary of the 2nd video was awesome. I could hear the excitement in their voices eventhough, I didn't have a clue as to what they were saying. :D There are many reasons why I think our club should have a half size dragon boat. All of the reasons that you mentioned are valid points. Sometimes, teams show up to practice and only 8-10 paddlers show up for practice. Also, some teams have 20-28 people show up for practice. This would give them the opportunity to take out 1 full boat and 1 half size boat. I also think for training purposes having a 10 seater would be helpful. The possibility of adding a 250m half size race to our festival dimensions is a grand idea. I will certainly bring it up to the Board of Directors. I am Co-Race Director of the September Race so, perhaps I can get this idea to fly. Now I need to find the boats!!! Ayla Ayla, you need to talk directly to the Vincent Lo and see if he'll make some new ones for you, especially if you're looking at a large order like that. He's the one who made those, although scuttlebut has it that he retired those from production awhile ago. Title: Re: Baby Dragon Boat Post by: island girl on March 14, 2007, 03:23:15 PM There used to be a half boat of a different make (Millenium??) in Kelowna back in 2000/2001, that was what they used for practices and GO hauled the full size boats up from the island for the Festival. I don't know if it still around and I think it might have had only 6 seats? Anybody else remember that boat, it must have been a fun ride on the lake in the chop!
Good luck Ayla! Title: Re: Baby Dragon Boat Post by: fortlangleydragonboat on March 26, 2007, 11:50:47 PM Not sure if you read our sad news but just this week we had our boat stolen and then we found it cut in half and someone has taken the front half. When we found the back half, we could see on the shore where they cut the boat and dragged the front half to the parking lot and there the trail disappears. It was a BUK boat and we have no idea what they plan to do with it but if someone offers you a half BUK DB with a homemade transom please let me know. You can see the lettering on bow of the boat says "Canoe Kayak BC". This is the end that is missing.
