Title: All you wanted to know about FCRCC but were afraid to ask Post by: brainiac on October 18, 2006, 02:24:36 AM I'm guessing there are quite a few paddlers who don't know anything about FCRCC other than the fact that we have some half decent men's, women's, and mixed dragon boat teams. :D
Well, FCRCC is actually the biggest multi-disciplinary paddle club in BC (and perhaps Western Canada). You can join as an individual or as a team. If you want to step up your game as a paddler, nothing beats cross training in small boats. You might also be interested in surfing some big waves in an outrigger out in English Bay. See www.fcrcc.com for more information. thx. Title: Re: All you wanted to know about FCRCC but were afraid to ask Post by: Colossus on October 18, 2006, 10:51:27 AM its a 4 week/once a week program that you sign up for at the office. thursday nights. can't remember if its at 6 or 7:30pm. don't know what the start dates are....
Title: Re: All you wanted to know about FCRCC but were afraid to ask Post by: brainiac on October 18, 2006, 07:29:26 PM Orientation has been running non stop since the spring and I think it will carry on through the winter if there is any demand. You can basically start whenever you want once you've paid your orientation fee ($50, which will be applied to your full club membership if you decide to join) or your club membership fee. The current time is 6pm on Thursdays. It may change but we promise to be good about posting the info on the fcrcc.com web site.
This is, by the way, OC1 only. I've heard some talk about flat water orientation (kayak and perhaps C1) but don't know if it's more than just talk. Paddling these boats is very challenging. If you develop the ability, you'll know you're a "serious" paddler. Another option is to try novice OC6. The group is currently going out with the Race Development bunch twice a week, Tuesdays at 6:30pm and Saturdays at 10:30am. The times may change in the near future as we adjust to winter paddling. You probably should be a full member to participate in this. Title: Re: All you wanted to know about FCRCC but were afraid to ask Post by: Colossus on October 19, 2006, 12:07:25 AM I'm not sure if its over already or not, but there was a k1 program running through the summer and into the beginning of the fall. from what i saw, it was a well-run program, with people moving up to the next level boats quickly, and even venturing out into the creek and them horrible boat wakes. :?
Title: Re: All you wanted to know about FCRCC but were afraid to ask Post by: brainiac on October 19, 2006, 09:24:04 AM Yeah, there was a novice k1 program in the summer but it ended in September. Would love to see it come back next year.
