Title: How much do you pay for your own regatta ?
Post by: ian on October 02, 2006, 04:14:48 PM
If  your team is part of a club that organizers a  dragon boat festival or regatta, do the teams within that club pay ?

1) Full price?
2) Discounted price?
3) Free entrance?
4) Other?

Also do all your club members have a say, as to where any of the proceeds (profit) will go ?

I would be very interested for your input
thanks ,, Ian ..

Regarding pay/don't pay, both have their merits. If the club pays (really means all members pay out of their club fees), you boost participation and provide value to your members. However, club members who don't/can't participate may feel they are subsidizing the others. I would say, if everyone has a chance to participate and you have "broad enough" participation -- don't ask me to define this  :) -- make things simple and have the club fund it.

Coincidentallly, the FCRCC executive is looking at a similar issue for the Small Boat Coaching program. Last year the club funded it so club members didn't have to pay any extra. This year, we have to decide whether to continue with that model or introduce some sort of user pay system (or perhaps a hybrid).

As for what to do with the profit, isn't that the job of your club executive? If the club members don't like what the executive does with the money, you can always boot them out. As it is with any elected representatives, we tend to get the people we deserve.  :P

i seem to remember paying a fee for coaching we recieved.  although i think that was more a team thing, not so much a program thing.     ...can't remember. horrible memory.
