Harvest some great skills this fall with Water's Edge Camps and Clinics

Outrigger Steering Course - Victoria (CORA Sanctioned)

October 22, 2006

These courses focus on Open Water and Regatta/Sprint Steering. The individual in the steering position assumes a large degree of responsibility over the performance of the boat. It is s/he who is required to set a course of navigation, as well as, be responsible for motivating the crew. This position requires a diverse skill set including the ability to read water while constantly adjusting stroke rates to achieve maximum efficiency and boat speed. Ensuring safety of the paddlers is paramount, therefore developing the necessary steering skills is required. Although these courses will instruct you in the development of steering skills, it is only through experience and time on the water that an individual will master the steering position.  (CORA members will receive a $15.oo discount).

This will be done through a step by step procedure to determine cause and effect. Coaches' Critical Eye II - Vancouver

November 5, 2006

Coaching is about problem solving and working together with an athlete to create a solution. Each athlete has different technical and physical needs. It is our job as coaches to:

Fine-tune our eye to get to the root of the problem

Be able to clearly communicate this to the athlete

Work with the athlete to create a solution to produce a desired effect

This process is key to coaching performance.

This three hour session is building on the Coaches’ Critical Eye. Participants will have the opportunity to share the commonalities that they have noticed amongst their athletes, how they problem solved, and the effect it had created (positive or negative). The session will continue with on-water work, where participants will be able to practice both refining their Coaches’ Critical Eye and their coaching communication style.
