Title: Arizona Dragon Boat Festival Post by: puppy on September 27, 2006, 08:34:43 AM Someone may want to confirm this but I heard that FMG may not be part of the Arizona Races in March 2007.
In addition, Water's Edge (http://www.watersedgesportperformance.com/) will be holding a paddling clinic 4 days prior to the Arizona Dragon Boat Festival. The paddling clinic is to help improve your stroke. Keep your ears and eyes posted on the Arizona race on Lake Tempe....Good things are happening down there......... Title: Las Vegas Dragon Boat Regatta Post by: paddling fool on September 27, 2006, 12:26:33 PM It is confirmed by a board member of the Arizona Dragon Boat Association that FMG will not be involved in the Arizona Dragon Boat Festival in March 2007. :D
Title: Las Vegas Dragon Boat Regatta Post by: puppy on September 27, 2006, 12:43:43 PM WATER’S EDGE ARIZONA PADDLE SPORT CAMP MARCH 18- 22, 2007
Water’s Edge is excited to announce in partnership with the Calgary Canoe Club, the first Annual Paddle Sport Camp in Arizona in 2007. The camp will include instruction in Dragon Boat and Outrigger Canoe. It will cover the spectrum of the paddle sport athlete – from novice to experienced paddlers. The goal of the camp is to create the opportunity for participants to attain higher performance levels in their discipline both on and off the water. Aspiring paddlers and experienced racers who want to become more proficient, will learn the building blocks to an efficient and effective paddle stroke and will leave the camp with a strong foundation of stroke mechanics. Coupled with module sessions of varying topics, participants will take away some key pointers that will be sure to improve their paddling ability. Sessions will include one-on-one and group coaching, video analysis, water changes, race strategies, drumming and steering communication, steering courses, equipment and gear topics and other seminars and information sessions. The Arizona Dragon Boat Festival which has seen some recent changes in organization and management will represent an excellent opportunity to top off the camp. Participants will have the opportunity to take everything that they have learned and put it to the test during The Festival, March 24-25, 2006. For more details on the camp, please visit the Water’s Edge website within the next couple of weeks at www.WatersEdgeSportPerformance.com. Or contact Water’s Edge directly via email at [email protected] or phone 604.657.7505 to be contacted once details are released. Title: Las Vegas Dragon Boat Regatta Post by: tjl on September 27, 2006, 01:25:09 PM But on the other hand, FMG was very proud of the fact that in "17 years of organizing, they had only allowed one protest." That says to me that they don't run very competitive festivals. Here is FMG's list of festivals: http://www.facilitymarketing.com/festivals.htm The list does not seem to include any major ones that attract a lot of non-novice teams. Given the comments here, and from what I saw when we went to Arizona in 2005, I can see why a non-novice team would prefer not to go to an FMG-run festival. Title: Las Vegas Dragon Boat Regatta Post by: puppy on September 27, 2006, 04:54:19 PM Arizona 2007 (www.azdba.com) will be different from all accounts. FMG is no longer running that race, thus the issues noted above will not manifest. However, I'm not sure about the Las Vegas Race.
I hope most of the teams haven't written of Arizona for next year.....I think they've recognized the problems from previous years and they are trying to improve their races. My understanding they are trying to create a race "for the paddlers"...just as San Francisco has..... On a positive note too.....the Arizona is a good race for the beginning of the season....paddling clinic and a weekend to see if it all works. You will be presently suprised.... 8)) Title: Las Vegas Dragon Boat Regatta Post by: James Cole on September 27, 2006, 09:59:02 PM Do Not Do It!!!
I cannot describe how bad FMG is. I doubt we will ever, ever do another FMG run event. Horrible. Title: Las Vegas Dragon Boat Regatta Post by: puppy on September 28, 2006, 08:00:56 AM I see James did not read the strings above....FMG is no longer running the Arizona Race. It has been confirmed by a Board member in Arizona.
However, I can't confirm who is running the Las Vegas race. Title: Re: Arizona Dragon Boat Festival Post by: Dr. Evil on September 28, 2006, 02:56:09 PM Kerry:
If FMG is out of the picture for AZ and Waters Edge is running the paddling camp just prior to the AZ DB festival, will Waters Edge be taking over the race operations for the AZ DB festival? Or, will the festival organizers do it on their own? Title: Re: Arizona Dragon Boat Festival Post by: puppy on September 28, 2006, 03:34:31 PM The Arizona DB has not confirmed who will be running their festival yet. If I hear of anything, I will let you know.
Thanks Title: Re: Arizona Dragon Boat Festival Post by: Mike on September 28, 2006, 03:54:01 PM I didn't attend Arizona with my team last season. What is the deal with FMG?
